The CD player works fine and I like the button for playing songs in random order. The radio is easy to tune and the signal strength seemed pretty good, even with the FM antenna cable still wrapped up.
My only negative point is that when the CD player is switched to the off position there is a noticeable hum coming from the speakers, even with the speaker volume set to the lowest level, this hum does not disappear unless you pull the electrical cord out of the wall. This will become annoying over time so I am docking this two stars. Overall if you're looking for a no frills, cheap and cheerful CD player you could do worse for $20.
I really do hate the string-type antennae. I much prefer the metal telescoping antennae to a wire that hangs off the side in a messy tangle.
Update: I bought a second one of these for my daughter. Again, it's not the best quality player, but it is such an attractive red. And it works. Mine hasn't broken, stopped playing, or any other malfunction. Giving her one also cuts down on the times I have to hunt mine down and bring it back to my study.
After I paid $15 to ship the item back to this seller, they eventually sent it back to me, STILL BROKEN! When I inquired about this, they said that I had not sent it back to them in the orginal box, so they sent it back to me. Then they said I need to contact the manufacturer directly for repairs. (Of course, their orginal email to me didn't provide any way to contact the mfg!). So, in a nutshell 1) I bought the item, only to have it break within one day, 2) I paid $15 (almost the price of the original item) to ship it back to them, 3) had them pay to ship it back to me (when they could have contaced me and asked if they could forward it to the mfg on my behalf, since they were going to pay to ship it somewhere anyway!). So, now here I sit with a still broken CD player, and the option of spending another $15 to ship it to the mfg. let's see....$30 in lost shipping expenses......over a month of dealing with this hassle only to be left with a broken product...and an apathetic seller who doesn't care a wink about resolving this issue. After all, they got their money, so why worry about the customer?! .....Perhaps I can sell it at a yard sale for $5?! What a huge mistake to deal with this seller!
The ONLY reason I gave it 2 stars instead of one is that we had some moderate usage out of it so if you need a real light usage, cheap CD player that sounds bad then this is probably just what you're looking for.
