To me, it's a coming of age book. A sex talk between father and son, but not just sex, how to deal with relationships with the opposite sex, both platonic and otherwise. Upfront and extremely well written. You can nearly smell the teenage boy sweat and literally feel his angst. This came from the author's diaries and you really can see, in your mind's eye, a teenage boy, writing furiously, whilst hearing the music of the time blaring. I hope this isn't the last I hear from this author.
Atleast I want to say...if you read this and you are not sure about this book....I wasn't too but I buyed it and now I love it so if you give this book a chance it will conquer your heart.
There was something both disturbing and funny about the main character, which obviously was carrying far more baggage then someone of that age should have.
It takes guts to be honest and own up to how silly and awkward one was as a teenager when nowadays it seems every other story touts the everyday kid as the next rock star or reality king/queen to be.
So kudos to the author for having the sand to open up his journal/diary and allowing us to both have a laugh at his expense and relive a bit of our own uncool past.
