Rubber mallet broke after opening 1 coconut. as I was opening a second coconut the rubber part flew off and almost hit my girlfriend in the head. Can still use the metal part to open coconuts but I would not recommend this tool. Get a different one.
Great tool for coconut water lovers! We bought young coconuts at the local market & used the tool to make an opening, so we could consume the delicious water by inserting a straw. Since the coconuts have a very hard shell, a lot of banging is required to make the hole, but it’s worth the effort if you want to enjoy refreshing water straight out of the coconut!
I usually use this for kind coconuts, and it works well. Some coconuts are easier to open than others. I read one complaint that the mallet should be heavier. I disagree with that - you can crack the coconut if you hit it too hard. A heavier mallet would likely cause the coconut to split. The tool is sharp as it is. I have no issues there. I opened up 3 baby coconuts this morning. The baby coconuts are super easy to open with this tool. The king coconuts take a bit more pressure to open
This coconut opener is very easy to use compared to my old method of using a butcher knife! Although, the rubber hammer is not as sturdy as it's breaking already. The metal opener is still sturdy and very strong. Though, the rubber hammer can be easily replaced for $3-5 at your local hardware store. Overall, highly recommend if you love coconut
Received items with my high expectation. But disappointed. The blade is extremely dull. These items do not cut through the coconut very well. Having no way to sharpen this and can not open a coconut. The mallet already has some slight dents and the smell is terrible when i open the box. Finally, it broke after 1 week using. You are better buying a hatchet from the hardware store.
