I am a fitness instructor and endurance athlete and cannot say enough good things about how it replenishes me during and after super-intense training sessions and runs. I now fill my Camelback with it for long runs and rides--no more energy gels and goos to keep me going.
I have had to convince many friends to try Cocozia after they had tried--and disliked--other brands of coconut water. There is a lot of variation with other brands--some taste sour, spoiled, a bit like suntan lotion, or simply "off." Not so here. The flavor is clear and true, super-refreshing, and absolutely delicious. My 7-year-old claims he does not like coconut, but he loves this water. He downs it after soccer and gymnastics practice and we make *the most delicious* lemonade with it (Cocozia, fresh lemon juice, agave nectar).
I use Cocozia for more than smoothies, juices and a sports drink alternative-I use it in place of broth in many soups and savory dish (it's amazing for de-glazing a pan after searing fish for a simple, flavorful sauce), to poach fish, seafood, chicken and vegetables, and in all sorts of healthy baking wherever water is called for in the recipe.
Highly recommended for one and all!
Coconut water - in case you're unfamiliar - is the clear liquid in the center of young, green coconuts. It's very different from coconut milk or coconut cream which is made by soaking the flesh from older coconuts in water. Coconut water is, and should be, virtually unprocessed.
To that end, I try to avoid a couple of things with any coconut water that I choose for my family. First, added sugars. Cocozia passes that test with flying colors. Its ingredient list is a single item; organic coconut water. Nice.
Second, heat-pasteurization. Pasteurization kills bacteria. That's a good thing, right? Yes. However, while heating coconut water to high temperatures may extend its shelf-life, it destroys some of the vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients. So, my preference is always unpasteurized, raw coconut water. R did find some brands that are high pressure pasteurized, meaning that nutrients were intact but the bacteria were "squeezed out"?!?! I don't know exactly how that works. In any case, Cocozia's package reads: "gently pasteurized." Not quite sure what that means, but I would prefer unpasteurized.
All in all, I was impressed with Cocozia. The flavor of Cocozia is remarkably close to that of fresh, raw coconut water straight from the fruit. I love that the ingredient list is one item. I do like that Cocozia is certified organic by the USDA and verified as non-GMO. Those are all important to me.
Unfortunately my young daughter doesn't share my coconut water enthusiasm. The first time she tasted it she just shook her head and handed it back. But she does like the smoothies I whip up for her with coconut water as the main ingredient.
When Cocozia started producing their 16.9 oz packaging I again reviewed it touting the benefits of hydration to ward off colds and flus. I also spoke of how it was easy to use coconut water as an ingredient in homemade soups or pilafs and again my daughter was receiving the benefits of coconut water without have to drink it directly. And the larger packages with a screw cap made it easier for me to get just the amounts I needed.
Now I've got my hands on Cocozia’s chocolate coconut water. It's delicious. It almost reminds me of a healthier version of the YooHoo I often drank as a child. It’s almost like dessert meets health food.
I loved it but the big question is whether or not my daughter would like it? Actually I was wondering if she'd even try it considering she already has negative feelings towards coconut water? Since she’s a huge chocolate I was cautiously hopeful. To my disbelief she loved it. We got a case not too long ago and it's gone. Did I mention that she's already asking for more.Read more ›
