It's the story of a beloved Border Collie who found it appropriate to share her time on earth with the Maziarek family -- an excellent choice on her part because they showered her with much love and affection.
Unfortunately, as with all life on this planet, after 12 joy-filled years, Codi's time began to wind down. The story revolves around her last days and the role that spirituality played as both she and her humans tried to deal with her imminent end. Heartbreaking as it is, you will find it difficult to lay this book down before you've reached the final page.
Keep a handkerchief or tissue handy. Anyone who has had to deal with the death of their beloved pet will identify with Codi's Journey.
This book is very well written and is an easy read. I would highly recommend it to any dog lover, especially anyone that has ever experienced the magic of being owned by a Border Collie.
Animals have a way of inspiring the best from us by virtue of their own pure positive energy.
But in the end, it is our own love that we feel. Reading this book has allowed me to feel the love that Mr. Maziarek is putting out there by virtue of his relationship with the amazing dog. To be sure, Codi's Journey is a beautiful, well-written story about a dog, but is was the author's observations & perceptions which mostly moved me. His love for his dog - or rather - the love inspired from within him by Codi has caused me to appreciate all animals for the goodness they inspire from within us all. I wish I had met Codi, and felt his energy, too!
Perhaps because I had read the author's earlier work, 'Spirituality Simplified,' I was predisposed to look for the 'spiritual lesson' here. But thinking about it now, I can see how this book should probably be categorized as a spiritual book simply on its own merit.
