Analyzing We analyze each and every shipment of coffee twice – once before it leaves its country of origin and again when it arrives at our Lincoln, CA facility. This careful attention to the coffee we receive ensures it’s of the best quality for you!	Cupping After the coffee is roasted, we prepare a tasting session. We start with 8.25 grams of roasted ground coffee, add 150 ml of 200-degree water, let it steep for a few minutes, and then begin tasting.	Roasting Roast level determines the strength of your coffee. Every minute of the roasting process is critical in meeting our quality standards. From 12-20 minutes, a temperature change happens, taking each bean from raw to perfection.

This is DARK roast not medium

The decaf beans are labeled as "medium/light" roast but this is clearly a DARK roast. I would call this a French roast. Not even close to "medium". The beans are brittle and OILY on the outside and all the flavor is cooked out of them. They taste "ok" for a dark roast but the roast level is completely misrepresented.

I've bought this before and this batch was not the same. I contacted the San Francisco Bay Coffee company and they told me to beware of not buying directly from them. This batch didn't have any Hazelnut flavor at all and seemed greasy. I got some from the manufacturer directly and it was what I was wanting and used to - delicious. Buying direct from them now on. It was cheaper too. Lesson learned!

Coffee is one of the most elusive flavors known to man. What one person likes, another hates. Personally, I found this coffee to be wonderfully aromatic and filled with flavor. I rarely make recommendations, but if someone asked me to pick a coffee for them, this would be my choice. Every morning my wife, who has NO IDEA of how to make coffee, arises and relishes this stuff. She always thanks me for making her coffee in the morning. Her sister loves to come to our house just so I will bring her a cuppa Joe in the morning. It's always this coffee and and I've never had a complaint. It's good stuff. 'Nuff said.

I’m a retired Pastry and Culinary Chef. My pallet is particular. I’ve tried a lot of hazelnut coffees. Most are junk. I do like Caribou Coffees vanilla hazelnut the best. But it’s too expensive to buy online most of the time, so I reverted to buying this when the price is right. It’s decent. And for me, decent says a lot.

Yes, the grounds are a bit oily. Some people hate this. I don’t. I love it. It makes a fairly decent cream on top. It’s a medium roast. In other words, it doesn’t taste burnt.

A bit darker than medium roast, but great for the price

I worked roasting coffee for 6 years, so I have high standards without being a snob. This is review is for the Hawaiian blend. It’s labeled as medium roast, but is more on the dark side; I would consider it dark roast, but maybe compared to their darker roasts this is medium. Also I travel to Hawaii often, and would not consider this as good as actual Hawaiian beans.

The beans had a bit of an oily sheen to them, which proves they’re fairly fresh (older, poorly stored beans will be dry in appearance). Beans also had a very nice aroma. Flavor is more like a dark roast, closer to a typical French roast with a deeper bite on the finish, than the smooth nuttiness of a more typical medium roast. I do personally prefer a lighter/medium roast, so I’m probably a bit more critical about this point.

I removed one star for the roast being darker than what I would consider medium. Overall a decent bean, and nice cup of coffee. The most impressive part is the value; it is an awesome bag of coffee for the price. I would absolutely recommend to others, and will be purchasing from them again.

We love the San Francisco Bay coffees we used to get from the local store here. Their Decaf isn’t available locally and it’s nice that Amazon carries it. However, the last bag of Decaf Gourmet Blend beans carry a hint of staleness and taste feels like it’s a little off from the first day we received it. Just ordered another 2lb bag of their decaf and hope it is fresher than the last one.

Update March 2018: we just received our second bag of this coffee, which appears to be fresher than the first. The taste is very smooth, especially since we drink our coffee black. The first bag’s staleness may have been a case of a poor seal on that bag so we will buy this again. A+.

I think we got a bad batch

First off, I need to make it clear that for well over two years I’ve religiously drank SF Bay K-Cup pods and LOVE them. I bought a 2lb bag of the breakfast blend and a bag of hazelnut and frankly, I think both are bad. Bad batches or bad beans. Holly cow. Smelling the beans in either bag is awful. The taste in my mouth once brewed taste rotten. I’ve never had such awful tasting coffee in my life!! We tried brewing it one way yesterday and another today to no avail. I finally smelled each bag and it’s clear they’re just bad. I don’t know if this is normal for beans from SF Bay, I hope not based on the amazing reviews but these are undrinkable.

My equipment is Melitta AromaFresh bean to cup filter machine with Melitta Gourmet paper filters. Initial setting for the first two cups was a medium grind and level one intensity and the intensity was changed to level two which proved to be perfect.

Colombian Supremo: The roast profile is very accurate with the beans dark and showing a bit of oil but not a lot. That shows a "Full City Roast" or "Full City Plus Roast" which we in the U.K. might call "Medium" or "Medium-Dark". The tasting notes are also accurate with dark chocolate, cherries and nuts with just a hint of dryness at the back of the throat. Overall quite an unsurprising coffee because I got what I expected which is a decent cup of American Joe. The only surprise is that it comes from Wales, U.K.

Perhaps those reviewers who complain about the French Roast which incidentally also appears to be accurate might do better with this one.

The overall family verdict on this is "Yep" which means we are well pleased with this coffee. When I order again in three weeks or so I'll be getting a subscription. Highly recommended.

Stale beans which provide a very empty espresso, little/no crema, but the taste you get is not too bad. I found the best way was to pull a shot at at a brew ratio of 1:1.6-1.8, at 88 degrees Celsius in around 25-28 seconds, any longer or any higher ratio caused for an extremely bitter, ashy note, however no matter how dialled in and how much I tried to get rid of the ash taste, it persisted in the aftertaste and only worsened the longer the time elapsed from the last sip. I believe these beans are good value for money if you're looking at extremely milk heavy drinks with syrups and to dilute the use of expensive beans, but if you've got the money, buy locally and/or source fresh beans.

Note: they're more dark-medium roast, not medium, with little acidity.

I have the SFB French Roast first thing in the morning but wanted something a tiny bit lighter during the day. I'm really picky about coffee, and I find most medium blends too mild and flavourless; this is a nice, fully rounded blend that I think is probably more medium-dark than medium.

I am puzzled about the listing claiming it's American made when my packet states it as roasted and packed in Caerphilly, Wales. I can only assume the company is American, and they have a plant here in the UK. If it were my business, I'd make it a feature and state that it's roasted and packed in small plants across the globe as that would reassure people of its freshness.

Having previously purchased the Rainforest blend from Costco I wanted to try another bean for the everyday. I drink two or three coffees a day so after a nice tasting coffee that's good value for money. I don't usual drink milk so like a stronger tasting bean. I have previously found the Rainforest blend to have quite oily beans, and were a little bitter for my taste, however having purchased the Columbian blend yesterday and not a few cups in its lovely. Smells wonderful and smokey, with a taste that reflects that also, it's not too strong, so could be drank black as I do but enough taste to be enjoyed with milk.
Good value for money with this sized bag and I don't need to drive to Costco just for a bag of coffee now. Great everyday bean.

I have recently tried these beans due to the decent reviews they have had for the previous years. For me, these beans were quite oiley, whilst somehow also being quite dry after grinded. I put this problem due to a freshness issue. The taste itself wasn't awful, but I have certainly had better tasting coffee for the price range. I may try these beans again in the future as a cheap everyday coffee at a push, hoping it was a bad batch.

Overall: A decent at best coffee, even for it's price range. I have a feeling I was witness to a poorer batch due to my contrasting opinions to much of the reviews. If you are on a budget for an everyday coffee which is nothing special you aren't going wrong with these beans, but there is certainly better out there.
