Ms. Larson seems to have overcome many of these issues. By having her love interest someone who is semi-official, the romantic drama is largely eliminated. She builds a good working relationship with the police chief (believable in a small town) and they share information with mutual respect. While Laila puts herself into dangerous situations without thought of consequences, that is nothing new in the mystery genre. Not only have female detectives since (and maybe before) Nancy Drew done this, their male counterparts do it as well.
I find myself looking forward to Laila and Daniel's next adventure, though that leads to the last problem: how many people can get murdered in one small town. Even Jessica Fletcher had to move to the big city to keep up the body count. Thanks to Ms. Larson for a wonderful series.
It's Christmas, the busiest time of the year in the food business. Daniel has taken her to eat at a restaurant a friend of his owns. When a dead body is found, Daniel is afraid his friend is going to get railroaded for the murder.
There are only so many days to get this done, before Daniel goes to Pennsylvania for family Christmas and Laila goes to Tennessee for Christmas with her parents.
So before I give away the whole story, read and enjoy.
This goes into the FAVORITES category, I would highly recommend to anyone who enjoys a well written mystery. No sex, very little violence, just a good cozy read.
