Product Description

Will (Glenn Howerton) is a 30-something website manager who uses local cafe, Coffee Town, as his office. When the owners of the shop discuss plans to convert Coffee Town into a bar, Will enlists the help of his two best friends Chad and Gino (Steve Little and Ben Schwartz) to save his freeloading existence. In order to thwart the plans of Coffee Town's owners, the trio stages a robbery to create the illusion of an unsafe neighborhood not suitable for the proposed venue. Also standing in their way is Sam (Josh Groban), a disgruntled barista with delusions of grandeur-he wants to be a rock star-and Will's heartache over unrequited love for Becca (Adrianne Palicki).

Funny coffee house humor. Ok movie.
3 out of 5 stars
Funny coffee house humor. Ok movie.
It was good. Some funny parts. All in all it really only held my interest because of the coffee house aspect and how true some of the characters really are in certain coffee shops.

I'm going to start off by saying that the main reason I wanted to watch this movie is because I'm a Groban fan...and for all the Groban fans reading this and for "most" of you who possess an actual sense of humor...WATCH THIS MOVIE!! Josh, in his role as "Sam", DOES NOT DISAPPOINT...he nailed this role!! Now, you might think I'm being partial because I am a fan of Josh Groban...but honestly, that's not the case. In this particular role though, Josh really showcases his comedic chops...and he has some of the funniest lines in the movie.

Now, onto the movie itself. It is indeed College Humor, so there are jokes that not everyone is going to find funny, but I cannot imagine who, as I smiled and/or laughed throughout this entire movie. Glenn Howerton, Steve Little, Ben Schwartz and Adrianne Palicki are exceptional in their roles as the coffeehouse regulars. Plus, a wonderful actor with Down's Syndrome named Josh Perry has some really funny, memorable lines and scenes. I can happily say that I'm now a fan of this entire cast...they were outstanding.

I would definitely recommend this movie, it's pretty original in my opinion and it's laugh out loud funny...and there aren't a lot of movies released today that you can say that about.

I happened to catch this movie on HBO after something I had been watching had finished. Before I could find the remote and change the channel I was sitting there laughing. I had to stay and watch the whole thing. It maintained it's level of humor throughout. The next time it was on I had my wife sit and watch it with me. She liked it, just not as much as me. It's just one of those movies that hits certain people the right way (Ringo Starr's Caveman anyone?). Anyway, I HAD to have it when I finally found it on Amazon. It's not for everyone but the dang thing worked it's way insidiously up the list to one of my favorite comedies.

Much of the comedy in this movie made me borderline uncomfortable. Steve Little's character Chad especially had the lines where you sort of spit the water in your mouth back into your cup and raise your eyebrows, not knowing whether or not its okay to laugh. There are jokes made about just about everything that you're not supposed to make jokes out of. However, I think the humor by in large managed to stay rather satirical rather than juvenile. I saw Chad as sort of vehicle for opening up a discussion about some of the topics raised, which in the end was refreshing.

As this is the type of movie that is basically endless talking with very little set changes and action--it's important that the relationship dynamics are simply perfect at all times. Unfortunately, there were a few times that I felt that movie was forcing things a little bit which just served as a reminder that the movie is pretty low budget and takes you out of the momentum. But by in large I found it witty and very different to the types of movies currently being made. It did remind me of times like an extended episode of "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia", but that's not a bad thing in the slightest. I would rent this movie first, if after watching the trailer there were moments where you genuinely laughed.

Love this movie. We have watched it again and again. I bought it the day it came out - didn't bother to try to see it in the theaters. I'm glad there are some alternative offerings like that. I'm not a big theater-goer. I prefer to be comfortable in my own home watching flicks, and it was great to be able to see something as soon as it came out, instead of waiting 6 months or more.

This was one of the best comedies I've ever seen. Every time I watch it, I laugh at something new, since everything is so densely packed. It's dark yet has heart. The three main characters are perfect. Genius.

As long as the movie isn't taken seriously, anyone should love it. The cartoon animations threw me off a little as he wasn't a cartoonist or artist in anyway. They would have made more sense had the main guy been an online cartoonist. But that is my only "real" complaint. Other than that, Coffee Town is just hilarious. More importantly. I'm glad I didn't have to wait till it came out on DVD. It is nice being able to see it while in theaters and not having to go to the theater, as I am a lonely bastard who has no one to go with.

The worst about this movie is the script. The writing has a sloppy structure so the movie comes off like a bunch of disjointed scenes that the writer struggled to fit together into some kind of 'story' (which this film doesn't have much of anyway)... making the story take second place to the attempt at fitting the dialogues in. It's not really that funny either. I did laugh I think 4 times though so it does have funny moments. Among the list of things that makes this film utterly ununique- there is only one female lead she's only there to serve as the sexual interest of the main character. Josh Groban's character is funny, but Josh Groban is not totally convincing in playing him. Glenn Howerton does a good job, but his body language wasn't that of a guy who is 'too responsible' or 'too nice'. He has a certain swagger that makes him appear to be a bit more arrogant than the character suggests- perhaps due to playing Dennis for too long. But this perhaps is being nit-picky as otherwise he does a good job and obviously has talent. The female lead- her acting was eh. Obviously she's some model who just woke up one morning and decided to become an actress. Though truth be told they probably all could've done better if the script was any good- Doesn't matter how well the bricks are laid- if you have a crappy foundation to work with the building will come tumbling down.

*******Spoilers beyond this point*******

Did I miss something? I thought Josh Groban stole the money from the register and had the cash in his pocket. Yet when the police came none of them were searched and Groban goes home with the money...without the manager ever noticing that the cash was gone? If I'm right about this then the script is even worse than I said.

Surprisingly hilarious film with a different story...actors are great, really enjoyable performance from Josh Groban, who plays a bit of a twit. Very funny performance from him, most notably when he sings to the gal he is interested in...he is not afraid to send himself up. This film is a real giggle, highly recommended

Thanks for speedy delivery. I was pleased to find this at a reasonable price to buy with some money I was given for Christmas. I'm a big Josh Groban fan and his small but vital role in this is completely "out of character" and not necessarily what people would expect from him which makes it all the more amusing.
