I bought this thinking I would have a neat little tool in my pack if I ever needed it. It feels solid at first glance, but its not. I tried to cut a branch 2 inches in diameter and after about halfway the steel cable snapped. I was really disappointed , but what could I expect at this price. I highly doupt anyone can use this successfully. I have a lot of budget products and this is not one of them.

I bought this pocket saw, thinking it might be a useful addition to my survival kit. I tried it out on a fallen dogwood limb in my yard a few minutes ago. It got halfway though a 1" section, and bound in the kerf. The saw would not actually make a cut. The saw kept twisting and coiling up. After 5 minutes, it kinked and snapped.
I'm glad I tried this thing out before relying on it in an actual survival situation. The life it wouldn't have saved could have been mine. I would be disappointed and angry about the total miserable failure, but I consider items that cost less than $5 to be reasonably disposable.
Bottom line: I wouldn't recommend this item for any purpose.

I picked up this product at Walmart for around $3 and do not know why it's more expensive online. Because it really shouldn't be more than a $5 add on item.

It's an OK saw, I tested it out on some small branches and it faired alright with the small stuff. I did a test on a 2x4 (didn't want to cut down any small trees) as a beefier test, and it came up short. It started off well and then quickly began to bind when it went through the thicker part and made cutting through that size of wood nearly impossible. If it were some thicker deadfall it might have faired better.

I ended up pulling out my leatherman multi tool and used their saw which was much better in comparison.

The way this saw works is it has a "screw" type edge on it, so getting started on any wood you will want to find a divot or cut in a quick edge for it to start in or else you will be sliding on top of the wood because of the screw like grooves that act as the "teeth".

PROS: Cheap (even cheaper ad Walmart), light weight, pocket size and can handle smaller branches well at about 1" thick.

CONS: Cheaply made and I would not put too much force into it as it might break, the screw type edge is not very high so the cutting is slow and binds on thicker wood.

Overall: I will keep it as a nice pocket size tool because it is so light and use it for branches. I'll keep it in my hiking bag if I ever needed in a pinch. But it will not replace a saw blade by any means.

I bought This at Walmart for 3.88, and at first it seemed like it worked. I tried it out on a 2x4, and it needed some muscle to pull it through, but it worked. After this, there was a kink in it, and I straightened it, and the saw snapped.
I was very disappointed, but Walmart refused to give me a new one (I don't care about the 4$, but I really want a pocket saw).
I recommend shelling out another 5$, and buying something higher quality

These little wire saws work decently on smaller branches/saplings. Don't expect to be cutting down redwoods or oaks with it though. Cutting down a couple 3" pine saplings for a simple tarp shelter took me about 10 minutes. Not bad for something that fits in your pocket and weighs virtually nothing. I like it.

The first time I used it it was on a small tree, about the size of the tree on the package. It went in about an inch and then snapped in half. Not worth it.

A must for any camper to have if camping in areas where there are branches and trees. You never know when you will need to cut a branch to make a fishing pole or to keep a low hanging branch from poking you in the eye.

Litterally if you buy McDonalds it would be a better survival tool than this garbage. Don't bother buying this item.
