It's strange that this was the only device of this kind that I could find. I need it to be small and light and this was the only one. This is exactly what I was looking for.

The only downside is that when you fold it up, it has points on all 4 corners that seem like they could cut/poke through a backpack pretty easily. So I put duct tape on those, put it in a cloth bag, and wrapped that in a t-shirt, and now it's more than safe. But since it was only 8 bucks, I won't deduct a star for that. But if a more high end company made one of these for a higher price, I would expect to see rounded corners and a fitted carry bag.

When you fold it up, it locks into place. When you open it up, it doesn't lock into place, but gravity and the weight of your cooking items will hold it stable enough.

I searched for months to find the optimal grill to take backpacking and landed on this product. It performed wonderfully while cooking steak and peppers over an open fire after carrying it for 9 miles a day. Great buy, great value. Probably a little small for car camping, but perfect for a ranging adventurer.

It served our purpose, which was to allow us to perch small pots over our campfire by supporting the grill on rocks. Before I packed the grill for our trip I broke off the folding legs intentionally. I was surprised how easily the metal legs fractured in the process. The grill warped a fair amount in use, but remained usable. I suspect it may not hold up well for extended use. Since using this, I purchased a folding fire grate from Brother Finbar ([...] which looks like a much better design for my purpose.

I really liked this little grill. I figured it would be a flimsy, but I was surprised. It's lightweight but, solid. It has a sturdy build. My idea was to take the legs off and carry the grate for a backpacking grill. I wasn't sure if it would work, but now that I have it, I think it will work just fine! It's a better price than many other options. It's a great little item to have in your backpacking/camping/prepping arsenal!

Cheaply made and poor quality, but good design/size for backpacker's use. Received item with 4 long sharp metal rods protruding from rack stands. (See pics - These rods support the rack in standing position) I would not put this in my backpack due to fear of puncturing and ripping bag. Rods need to be cut down 1/4" and filed smooth to avoid puncturing/snags on backpack material. (Quality control suggestion.)

I can't praise this thing enough. I have another Coghlans grill that I used to use for backpacking, and it was equally as awesome. However, this particular one is MUCH smaller. You could probably fit 2 (MAYBE 3) cups on it for heating water, which is perfectly acceptable for a solo, or paired hike. Awesome product!

This grill will not last you through endless seasons, but for the price do you expect it to? It's robust enough for backpacking. I recently used this grill on some fairly hot fires holding two pots. The grill skates that thin line between too heavy duty for backpacking and to light to do the job. There was some drooping mid-grill after a week of daily use. I'll probably break the legs off this and use rocks next trip but for now the grill works as expected and got good reviews from all my backpacking buddies.

Took it backpacking and tossed it over the fire to gill up some steak. For that reason it deserves 3 stars for it being so light weight and worked well. However, it has pretty pointy edges so there is no way you can safely put this in your pack without fear of it tearing something. I had to keep it on the outside of my bag to be safe.
