The book is filled with twists and turns that keep you excitedly reading. The characters are smart and I can easily empathize with the broken detective trying to get by and maybe even redeem himself. The writer carefully develops key clues throughout the story if you are clever enough to follow them. The story will keep you guessing until the very end.
Characters are developed and flushed out in the first few chapters and they are a good surrounding cast with a wise old bartender, a good Girl Friday, an old friend still on the job, a mysterious benefactor and many more.
The dialog, action and narrative were balanced with scenes being rendered well with the minimum amount of description. The dialogue is economical and communicates the emotions of the characters easily. The action is tense and violent leaving the reader stunned in some cases. The book overall is about a PG-13 with light amounts of swearing, adult situations, violence and tasteful nudity.
I can recommend this to anyone who likes a good murder mystery.
I look forward to Maxwell Floyd's next adventure.
