Works well with the Juwel Cold Frame 1000

I attached 2 of these to my new Juwel Cold Frame 1000. Be advised that you will need to drill 4 holes into your cold frame to mount the arm.

It works great! It does indeed raise on warmer days, and raise more the warmer it is. Installation was easy, although the directions were not particularly clear. However, once through the annoyance of installion it's working well. It's also easy to partially detach the arm in order to open the cold frame to plant or water inside.

poor quality control and substandard construction

I ordered 2 of the arms. On one arm the set screw was striped from improper assembly at the factory and, on the other one, a spring broke as soon as I opened the arm. I had to make repairs rather than return as I needed to install the parts as soon as possible but I will not order this brand again.

Great little cold frame openers

Just bought a couple of these. They work great. I'm using one with a light plastic cold frame top and another with an old wood frame plexiglass top that is quite heavy. Installation on the cold frame is a little bit a hassle and the provided screws are limited to thin material, so you will either have to rummage through your can of old nuts and bolts (which is what I did to find what I needed) or measure the length you need and get it from a hardware store. You can't blame the manufacturer for this since every cold frame requires different hardware.

You can EASILY detach the opener in order to lift the cold frame cover. The bottom attachment arm can be removed and reattached by squeezing the arms together.

As others have stated, the directions are not helpful and they do not explain the design and function of this nifty opener very well. But even I could figure it out and mechanically this gadget is outstanding.

It took a while to figure out the best way to mount this because I didn't want to drill thru the plastic as shown. All I needed was a metal tee from the hardware and than used all the parts as supplied and mounted every thing on the frame. It works perfectly.

I am a somewhat haphazard gardener but with my Jewel cold frame and the automatic opener, my shortcomings do not matter. Whenever the temperature gets high enough to cook my seedlings on a bright sunny day,up pops the opener. This is the second one I have had, the other on an improvised sunbox- a simple wood frame and old window, and that works perfectly too. I would not consider a cold frame without an automatic opener!

I was surprised at the amount of weight this will push; however, the drawback is that once it is attached to both sides of the cold frame, you can't open the cold frame from the top to get inside and minister to the plants. DH tried to construct something that would allow one end of the arm to detach, but without being firmly screwed together, the top would get blown open and completely flip over in the wind.
