From the Author
Cold Fury was inspired by a local cold case murder. During the writing, the story became purely fictional, veering far from the real case, which is just as well. I have no intention of plunging into the true-crime genre. My training is in history, so I have no doubt that I could do the research. However, I prefer to entertain with something other than real suffering and tragedy. It is not just convention when I write in the disclaimer that the people and events found in the novel are purely fictional and do not represent any real person, living or dead.
Horrific deeds beget more horrific deeds--in this story, they beget madness. Saying more would spoil the plot.
(Series Notes: Mirabelle, now five, asks how Richard and Jill met. Jill fields the thorny question--for now. Blue Creek Floats has stopped hemorrhaging money. Richard is troubled by vivid dreams. Agent Hal Tanner gives needed advice. Shane's guard unit has been deployed to Iraq and his wife, Raven worries.)
I hope you ride along with Richard and enjoy solving this mystery.
