These arrive sharp and ready to cut things perfectly FOR EVER.
HAND WASH these knives or else you will destroy the blade integrity in the washing machine.
Take care of these knives and they will last you centuries.
While, I am used to German and Japanese Cutlery that is heavy in the hand, I have come to rely on these knives.
The handles are a synthetic polymer/plastic which is secure in the grip even when the knives are wet or when slippery while washing them by hand.
The edges are sharp - sharp as any Cold Steel Hunting or Fishing knife I've purchased in the past.
I've cut roasts, vegetables and fruit with the knives and steaks an inch thick with the steak knives. The edges remain sharp. The knife block is heavy and is built (not just made) from what appears to be maple laminate and is well constructed and attractive on the counter.
I've spent thousands on kitchen knives in my life and find these Cold Steel Knives equal to and probably better than any knife in my kitchen.
While they still seem to be too light and too thin, they are the ones I use now. All I have to do is figure out what to do with my German Steel.
First off, this is a very awesome knife set. I love the design and variety of the cooking knives. They all have very grippy rubberized handles that are comfortable to use. All the knives came to me hair-shaving sharp. They've got a knife for pretty much everything the casual cook would need.
I have not had any of the knives bend, break, or rust... even after several of the steak knives were left in the sink for over 2 days, wet. I do not wash these knives in the washing machine though, I *always* hand wash and dry them. I don't mind taking the extra steps to keep these knives looking great.
I get compliments all the time on the quality of the steak knives - they cut through meat very easily and are nicer than any steak knife you'd find in a restaurant. The Chef's knife is amazing for vegetables and larger food items. The bread knife works great as well. I haven't had any issues with any of the knives - they all function and look great.
The only thing to know about these knives is that you need to kinda take care of them. Keep them clean and dry after you're done using them, and you won't have any issues. People dissing these knives because they claim the handles get "gummy" or they're rusting are simply misusing these knives. These aren't silverware that you throw into the washing machine when you're done. If you mistreat these knives, you have no one to blame but yourself.Read more ›
