For the money, the Bushman knives might be the strongest survival/outdoor knives in the world! Unlike most hollow handled survival knives, there is no joint or seam between the blades and handles that requires a mechanical fastener. Instead, the Bushman's blades and integral handles are each expertly cold forged out of a single piece of 2.5mm thick SK-5 high carbon steel. The resulting knives are expertly heat-treated and tempered to RC54 and, when subjected to our tests, have withstood over two tons of pressure on their blade/handle transition! Every Bushman blade has been carefully ground to an extra thin edge, and then honed and buffed by hand until razor sharp. The Bushman knives are versatile too! Their hollow handles will accept survival supplies or a variety of handle extensions which can maximize reach, leverage or ease of throwing. They are available in two blade styles (standard and the new Bowie point). Both feature continuously curved blades that are ideal for skinning, and will pierce, cut, slash, slice and shear like you won't believe. Comes complete with the new Secure-Ex sheath which features a Ferrocerium Fire Steel; strike it on the spine of the blade & start a roaring campfire in no time! Features: Blade Length- 7"; Overall Legnth- 12 1/4"; Steel- SK-5 High Carbon; Weight- 10.1 oz; Blade Thcickness- 2.5mm.

I had a backpacking trip coming up, so I figured I decided to get the knife ready. My main concern was safety as there is no hilt on this knife and accidents happen too easily. I tried several paracord wrapping techniques and encountered a few problems. The first wrap I did was pretty but it did would not stay tight on the handle. The second problem was the wrap interfered with the correct function of the locking mechanics on the sheath. If you make the wrap too thick, it would not lock in the sheath. If you start the wrap too high up the handle, it would not lock. It took a while but I finally got a workable configuration that allowed the 1) sheath to lock, 2) provide a better grip. I added a handguard made out of paracord and now I had a survival/fighting knife.
Testing the knife was a lot of fun. I have limited experience throwing knives, It struck my target tree every time sticking in blade first every throw. I cut a 4ft stave, inserted it in the handle and used it as a spear. It worked just as advertised. This knife is a keeper.
You can wrap it... But you won't want to when you feel it and I don't know how the locking sheath will react, as it seems set as is... Bonus you can cook on without the handle melting but maybe your hand, but there's the spear thing, and that my friend... Makes this an all in one zombie eradicating tool and I'm surprised cold steel hasn't struck a deal with the walking dead show...as gerber never should have qualified!
the handle is hollow like a tobacco spear, and basically the same steal, for those that know what that is.
this is not a heavy knife, survival knife or anything like that. It's a lightweight, steal stamp where the handle is the same thickness of the blade but has been rounded over a pole to make a hollow handle/mount to also double as a spear. use a broom handle, a designated, designed spear or craft one out of a tree limb and jam it up into the open handle and lash it to the pole to secure it and you have a spear, javelin or any other device to throw, stab or spear at distance.
Mind you, I like it, it came recommended from a friend as an inexpensive, very multipurpose blade, and that is exactly what it is. it is a knife, but very light - it would work amazing as a spear head and easy to craft a spear from the Forrest to fit it, a chopper, a cutter, not much of a bush craft knife for splitting wood because it is thin and light but did come very sharp, not popping sharp but sharp. I have it attached to my BOB. it's just such a unique piece with so many uses for such a low price I couldn't pass it up.
background from cold steel on the concept of where they derived their inspiration for developing it. Africans carry this kind of blade on long expeditions for gathering food.
