Unfortunately I did not enjoy this book as much. It is a very different writing style from the DI Bliss series. At times I thought it was meant to be comic with everyone chasing each other. You would never think you were in the middle of nowhere in New Mexico!
I would not recommend this book and rate it a 3 star.
I received a free electronic copy of this novel from Netgalley, Tony J. Forder, and Bloodhound Books in exchange for an honest review. Thank you all for sharing your hard work with me.
Cold Winter Sun is an excellent crime thriller, and a tribute to my personal stomping grounds - Otero, Lincoln and Chaves Counties, New Mexico. It was a special treat to find local haunts in this British novel. I hope you were able to spend some spring joy and summer heat with us as well!
We meet again with Mike while he’s having a break from life. He needed it after what he went through last year. If you haven’t read book one you won’t be lost as the author does explain what happened. A phone call from his ex wife has him and his friend Terry rushing to LA to track down her new husbands nephew Vern.
If you’ve read anything by this author you’ll know it won’t be as easy as it looks. Mike gets more than he bargained for when he looks into the disappearance of Vern. I was mentally putting the pieces together as I was reading but I didn’t take into consideration the twists the author may throw at me.
Although there are quite a few characters in this story I found it easy enough to keep track of who was who.
This is another brilliant story by this author. I recommend you go read all his previous books as they are so good. I now wait impatiently for his next release.
I loved the plot, the characters were fantastic and that cover is excellent – the whole thing was executed brilliantly and it worked for me from the first to last pages and I can’t give it anything other than 5 stars!!
I read the book in an evening and flew through the pages. His writing style is brilliant for this genre and I loved the flow for the story. Superb!
Very highly recommended – a thrilling read – very highly recommended!!
Terry and Mike travel to Los Angeles at the expense of Donna's husband, Drew and embark on a journey to locate the missing man. Few if any clues are available to them, and we follow their trail from Los Angeles, to Las Vegas, and through a barely populated area of New Mexico where they encounter the local sheriff, two FBI agents, two fake police officers and a Native American Indian, all of whom seem to be searching for someone but is it the man for whom they are searching? Eventually, they manage to unravel the mystery and locate the young man. But to know what happens up until then and following that find, you will have to read the book.
I found it totally fascinating, going into areas of which I had no experience or knowledge. A book with totally believable characters and Mike and Terry really drew me into the story. It's a book well worth reading and one I strongly recommend. As I understand it, this is the follow up to Scream Blue Murder. I'm off to get my hands on a copy of that book.
Note - I was given a copy of this book by the publishers, Bloodhound Books and agreed to write a review.
