I really liked the book, I was expecting something different because it would be very difficult to beat the last one (Rainey Season), so I was not disappointed with the different pace and more insights of Rainey Bell. It's not dark and intense like the others but the plot is there ( not so much the mystery, at least for me) and the breath taking moments too. Another great book, waiting for the next one.
I really like this author and agreeing with a review I read online ( I apologize to the author of that review for not remembering her name): "we don't have enough books from this author".
Bradshaw is a fine writer - one of the best currently lending her talents to lesbian fiction - and this new novel has been worth waiting for.
In short, Rainey Bell is dutifully - and innocently - attending the funeral of one of late dad's wartime buddies when a snow storm and an unlikely serial killer upset her schedule. Wife Katie and the triplets are safe at home, Rainey thinks, but as always where she is concerned, nothing is as it seems.
It quickly becomes clear that the "hunting accident" was no such thing and that the murder suspect is no such thing either. The pace gradually picks up as Rainey unwittingly makes herself a target for one of the more interesting murderers you'd ever hope not to meet. rainey finds herself in a situation where she is not only in the deepest trouble imaginable but also has someone with her who is likely to be the last millstone around her neck before they both drown.
Bradshaw has said she's looking to move to new writing pastures, but it would be a shame to abandon these rich characters - Molly Kincaid, for instance, who appears but peripherally here. At the same time, from the author's point of view, it's easy to understand a wish to move on. Unfortunately for her, fans are unlikely to take it lying down, and if this book is an example of what the author can do when she thinks she's done enough - then she should think again. There are clearly plenty more gems to be found where this one came from.
Trouble follows Rainey everywhere she goes, but I especially loved bringing her father back into the picture and casting him as the guardian angel.
Thank you R.E. (Decky) Bradshaw for allowing us to be enthralled once again with your writings.
Will we see another Molly book? Would love to see her and Rainey solve a case and follow her and Leslie in their life journey.
Being from NC makes me want to drive to Chapel Hill and look up Molly Kincaid!!!!
From a story telling genius this book weaves a story that twists and turns then leaves you with a satisfied smile.
I could not put it down until I had read the complete book, but I expected that, since every one of the books this author has written has affected me that way.
If you have not yet enjoyed the work of this author, you should start immediately! I for one can not wait for her next book to be published.
The excellence begins with the story and continues through the editing. A true joy from beginning to ending.
