I reviewed this book at MustReadBooksOrDie with my friend Shelley.

Shel: Courtney and I really enjoyed Inky so when we saw that Cole was out, we knew we had to read the conclusion of their story. I'm so glad that we did. It starts off right where Inky left us and while I logically KNEW that Anika wouldn't be killed off in the first few pages, I didn't know what torture awaited her. I won't spoil it for you, but goodness gracious I felt so sorry for both Cole and Anika--the horror and sadness that this book started off with would be an incredible challenge for anyone to overcome.

Court: Dude, no joke. The things that life hands them is not the best way to withstand a long term relationship, let alone one that is just starting they impressed me greatly with their dedication to talk things out no matter what and not let the dark places of their mind trap them in memories. It is some hard stuff to read, but it was a wild beginning to this follow up novel!

Shel: I wish I could put my finger on what it is, exactly, that drew me in. Maybe it's the darkness that both of these characters must grapple with? Or the fact that they work so hard to have an honest relationship in which they discuss the fun stuff and the hard stuff? OR maybe it's just that they refuse to let petty stuff get in the way of their obvious love for each other? Or the hot and steamy sex scenes? OR maybe it's their love of the word (edit)?!!! I'm crass and so are they...a marriage made in book heaven. Probably it's all of that and more. I swear I'm not a sappy, love, girly-girl and there's a lot of love, I love you's, love stuff going on but it honestly did not bother me one tiny bit. I felt like they had earned every one of those I love you's.

I think a series is very difficult for any author to pull off. A stand alone is one thing, but a series is a totally different ball game. Subsequent books can make or break the entire series. JB Hartnett has managed to bring everything that made Inky fantastic to Cole to create a series that is simply b.e.a.u.t.i.f.u.l.

There's just so much to say I don't know where to start, and I doubt I'll even get to say everything that should be said, but I'll try.......

If you read the Acknowledgements from the Author, she tells you exactly what this series is:
"I wanted to rip people's guts out, make them cry and put them back together again with hot sex and unbelievable love that wins over every other obstacle."

Once again, JB Hartnett made me feel EVERYTHING ..... another very emotional journey. Cole is full of passion, emotion, healing, drama, laughs, heartache, joy, and of course hot sex. I absolutely adore books that are this passionate and real that I become so lost in them I can't tell where I end and the characters begin. I love everything about this series: the story, the characters, and the writing.... everything

JB Hartnett's writing style is fresh and wonderful. This woman has some mad mad writing skills and with humor to boot! She has this amazing ability to mix the humor with the sensitive situations in just the right way that doesn't detract, but adds to the feel of the book. Sometimes, I felt guilty that I was laughing so hard when the subject matter is so sensitive. The feelings she can elicit from you are, at times, indescribable.

And, she sure knows how to kill you with the most touching and unexpected moments, too.

This is the third book I have read from this author and I am very impressed with her work. She takes her characters from the lowest of lows and brings them to joy and happiness which leaves you with a huge smile on your face.

The start of this story we have Anika in a very intense and horrible situation with Cole worried that he will never see her again. He brings his family and friends together to try and get her back safely.

One of my favourite parts of this book was the relationship that developed between Cole and his father. In Inky, Cole's father was an absolute jerk and we hear the most horrible and atrocious things about him. This story sees him in a completely different light. The forgiveness and bond that forms was touching, but it was also nice to see Cole's Mum get her HEA sorted as well.

Lots of anguish and suffering for this couple to overcome, but we see them work through their problems together. They have always had a sizzling connection, but their communication with each other made them a much stronger couple.

As a funny side note...through the whole of this story I was picturing Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan playing these characters. I have not seen 50 shades of Grey, but the characters make a joke out of Cole wearing the loose, low slung jeans like a certain character and boom that is all I can picture for the rest of the book.

Really, really enjoyed this book, but I did remove 1 star because at the 30% mark I felt it lost a bit of steam and dragged a bit.

I am now a fan of this author and have already bought Nico's book. Keep them coming Ms Hartnett.
