Top customer reviews
PROS: well designed (with exception of how grill connects to gas tank); very portable; lots of BTU's - grill can get insanely hot, very quickly; grill thermometer actually pretty accurate; lots of cool accessories like different grilling surfaces that can be mixed and matched.
CONS: Hookup to gas tank looks very fragile and sticks way out on back of grill - poor choice on otherwise well designed grill; grill has pronounced hot and cold spots. Must place food items carefully to get good results; bottom edge gets very hot - ready to burn you just turning over your food; unit heavier than you'd think, mostly due to the cast iron grill surfaces; design makes cleaning up a little difficult - under grilling area doesn't lift out, must unscrew 8 tiny screws (that tended to strip on me) to take out; like all Coleman products premium quality /premium price
The pull out shelf was scratched on delivery and not from the shipping as it was well enclosed.
It is definitely more convenient and works well with the small tanks or with the hose extension sold separately for the standard BBQ grill large propane canisters.
I did buy the propane hose, the griddle and the stove grate to go along with this.
After reading the instructions, I lit it which was easy, and let it burn off the oils and such for about 15mins. Be prepared to leave the area as it stinks with this process really bad like your burning toxic material. We grilled steak the first night and it was very good, we then cooked hotdogs brats and chicken with very good results. Some reviewers are saying that this burns hot but I did not seem to have that trouble at all. I like the low setting for slow cooking the meats. Im looking forward to getting the griddle for pancakes and the other attachment for pots. I loved it in every way, just one exception is the plastic handle. I hate plastic in general and on a hot grill Im wondering how long it will take the heat. Only time will tell. Im looking forward to using this grill for future camping and maybe even on my deck for Sunday breakfasts. Don't hesitate to buy the Road Trip Grill. I will ad more info when I get the accessories
