But first, the tent itself is pretty standard Coleman. For me that's a plus, since I've never had anything but good results from the brand. The tent is absolutely geared toward car camping at established sites, definitely, and makes assembly as easy as possible. I think the cited five-minute timeframe is a bit of a stretch (no pun intended), but certainly within 10-15 minutes this thing can be up. What I did appreciate is that the design made it fairly simple for me to put this tent up in low light, which is something I'm happy about after driving for a few hours, checking in, finding the campsite in a maze of campsites, and being left with maybe 7 minutes of light left and screaming kids who wanted to go to Disney instead of the Great Outdoors.
Ahem.
As for the dark room bit - yeah, it works. While part of the magic of camping is waking up to the sunrise, my wife doesn't want any of that. Dark when sleeping, semi dark when awaking. I've learned not to argue. Note that it isn't pitch black in there under full daylight, but certainly dark enough to offer a respite from the sun if you want. I like to add a fan for ventilation and I have a pretty comfy hidey hole.
Then there's the size. Yeah, the number of adults who are supposed to be able to fit in here rarely if ever match the number who actually do. I always could one person less for actual capacity, so a three person = two, a five = four, and so on. Seems to work for this tent. The design of the tent does offer a bit more vertical space than I was expecting, so that's also appreciated.
Performance, it seems to stand up pretty well....waterproof (yeah, under a hose spray it works quite well), and stands up to moderate (eg not gale force) wind acceptably enough. It's not something you take with you on an Everest trek, but then it's not designed to do that. It's a recreational tent.
So all that said, yeah I like it a lot. Good room for the fam, pretty easy to set up, take down is...well, I never get it folded up as nice as it was out of the box but it's easy enough, and it does a good job. I like it quite a bit.
First & foremost, I laugh at the 'Wind resistant in up to 35 mph winds' claim Coleman makes, as my tent completely imploded in 20+ mph winds on the 4th day of owning it. The main culprit is the cheap, flimsy frame. It's among the thinnest I've ever seen, while the joints are a simple non-reinforced steel sleeve. It's said cheap joints that did my tent in - the 2 in back complely curled over, making my $170 tent a glorified sleeping bag. I owned an Ozark Trail Family Cabin tent previous to this that I purchased for $68 from Walmart & that tent held up in far stronger winds than this one did.
Also, there is no ventilation in this tent, which means it's essentially one big sail the moment the wind picks up. No windows, no vents & the door screen only goes down halfway. Even if your tent doesn't completely implode as mine did, or blow away outright - the walls will curl in on you to the point that you're reduced to maybe half of the available space. The poles bend so much, I'm actually amazed one didn't snap out-right.
And the whole reason to buy this tent, the 'Dark Room Technology' is also flawed. Leave it to cheapo Coleman to put the world's thinnest layer of this material on their tents as mine started flaking off on day 1. If this tent gets scratched in any way, it will flake off. If you are in a dusty climate, it will flake off. I feel like if I coughed on this tent, more would come off. My tent ended up having thousands of tiny pinholes letting light come in from every direction. Also, 75% of that 'dark room technology' is from the rain fly - the top of this tent is completely mesh. Why is that a problem? Because, the only way to prevent this tent from imploding everytime a strong gust comes along, is staking that rainfly down hard, 2-3 ft. away from the tent. This means that you now have a gap on 3 sides of your tent letting light pour right in, thus defeating the entire purpose of said, 'dark room technology'.
I have spent hours upon hours on this stupid tent. Hammering the joints back into place after it imploded, re-staking the rain fly down time & time again. I even searched Amazon & Google for 'tent frame reinforcements' to help make this tent sturdier. I ended up calling Coleman at their help-line to see about a frame replacement, but they have none. They did offer to send me a new tent, but you have to jump through 10 different hoops to get it as well as the standard '7 to 10 business days to ship' non-sense. Honestly, I don't even want another one of these tents for free as it's not a manufacturing defect - it's a design defect (multiple design defects...) & I would have the same problems all over again. So in the end, I just threw the whole thing in the dumpster.
In summary, whoever designed this tent obviously does very little camping in the real world & it needs to be redesigned from the ground up. The idea itself is a good one as there are very few dark rest tent choices available, but this offering from Coleman is to be avoided at all costs.
TL;DR
Cons:
-Flimsy, cheap frame
-Dark room coating chips off
-Door height too low
-No ventilation
-No technology port
-Overall terrible design
Pros:
-Nice color scheme

First of all, the tent arrived great, they even add a big box with the original box only occupies half of it. But, the big problem is that they sent me the wrong part. Specifically, the front pole that supports the front fly is too short and looks used already. I can see some rust in the pole.
I've sent an email to the support team regarding my complaint and haven't got a reply until I called them. I did talk to the support team and ask me some documentation such as proof of purchase and photo of the pole. When I'm done sending them, haven't got any confirmation that my complaint has been approved and gonna expect a replacement anytime soon. The reason, I write this review is for them to improve their customer service. I am an amazon prime and can return this product if I want to.
Here's my product review.
Pro:
The tent itself is beautiful, love the dark fabric as it blocks the sunlight and helps cooled down. Quality is acceptable except for some wrong part. The 8 person tent more like a 6 person tent unless you sleep like sardines.
Cons:
Size is not really big for an 8person unless some are kids. Seen some joints that might leak in the future.

The product is way smaller than some photos and reviews lead you to believe. You cannot stand up in this nor can you sit up and look out the front like the other photo! It may fit 4 people but not "generously" at all. We fit one queen size air mattress snug with just enough room for 2 peoples clothes.
AND after waiting over a month past expected delivery it came with a small hole in the roof. Thankfully one bandaid did the trick for the night but what a potential-nightmare. The new nightmare is Amazon is referring customer support to a broken Colemancanada website where they forgot to pay their Amazon web service bill lol!
I'm not salty. It's just a tent but it almost can't count for that.
PS. remember a lamp to put in the roof pouch (and watch your head) cause inside is spooky dark + extra batteries, lamp even in the day
If Coleman had this same tent with a better quality I would buy it again and pay more. The size was perfect for our family of four and the set up was a snap.
I’d only buy this if you need a throwaway tent for a few trips.
