For $6 dollars, this compass does just about everything I purchased it for. It gives accurate readings and is reasonably durable. The compass isn't exactly what you see in the picture, but what you receive is actually nicer than the product depicted. If you're looking for a cheap compass that will get the job done, I would recommend this.

Pros:Small, light, inexpensive, accurate, glow-in-the-dark needle.

Cons:Inconsistent quality. Some are completely filled others have air bubbles.

The Bottom Line: At the current price (under $10 at the time of this writing), get one! This is the most accurate of the inexpensive, plastic compasses that I have tried. You may not need to spend any more money for a compass.

I bought this little pocket compass a few years ago at Walmart for around $5 just to play around with it. I wanted a pocket compass but never really decided on a specific one so I didn't want to spend much money. I found this for $5 in the camping goods and just couldn't pass it up for the price.

The Housing:
It's 1-3/4" in diameter overall and 2-1/4" across at it's widest part (hinge to lanyard ring). The whole thing is only 5/8" high (when closed and sitting on the table). So this is definitely a pocket-sized compass. It's dark greenish grey plastic (don't drop it in the bushes) and has a metal triangle to attach a lanyard. The lid is hinged with a small brass (a non ferrous metal) pin. The lid snaps closed and features a small thumb stud to assist in opening it. Aside from the Coleman logo, there are no markings on the outside.

Another cool thing...it's WATERPROOF! I closed it and put it in a small bowl of water. The compass floated (a very good thing indeed!). I pushed the compass to the bottom of the bowl and shook it around a bit and when I opened the compass, the face was DRY! Now, this compass is NOT pressure rated so it's not submersible to any depth, really. I only tested it in a couple inches of water to see how tight the lid sealed.

The needle stop fast and accurate. The marking are clear. My daughter is 6, and has been using it for her map project without any issue. I would recommend this to anyone, any age.

Way overpriced. This is a cheap little compass that doesn't work very well. One end of the pointer keeps dragging and won't point to north unless I kind of shake it around and tilt it just right. Look for a better one...

The compass came on time and works well. It points accurately and quickly. The only problem is that it is incredibly difficult to open from the closed position due to its incredibly tiny latch (see photo). When I tried to open the compass, I broke the latch and now it won't fully close.

I inspect houses for termites and got tired of having to ask others what side of the house I was on...they didn't know either and just "faked" an answer. So I bought this Coleman Pocket Compass based on the Coleman name, the price, and the reviews from others. It's perfect for my purpose. I strung it on a leather cord and hang it around my neck. It's just a basic compass, nothing fancy, but it allows me to go about my business, confident that my report is accurate.

This is a relatively small plastic compass. Its the size of a silver dollar, about 1/2 inch thick. Its fairly easy to level it so the compass needle swings north but you do have to hold it level. The compass needle is red with one end tip silver. You wouldn't want to use this compass for precise navigation but it will get you in the general direction. There is no bezel, sight, etc. Just a plastic compass.
