Yes, the fan can be a little loud... but I LIKE that feature. When you're bike riding across the state of Iowa with 10,000 of your closest friends the fan can drown out all the little noises of your neighbors in their tents. But most importantly, it will keep you cool in the late July Iowa weather.

One of the best features of this fan over others like it, is that the battery pack plugs into the fan. When you break camp for the night you just unplug the battery pack and store it in your bags. With other fans the batteries remain in the fan and it is too easy for the switch to get bumped during travel leaving you with dead batteries at your next campsite.

A must have for your tent.

This fan has a poorly designed voltage regulating system to control fan speeds. Not only will it generate enough heat (on low speed) to burn the circuit board and resistor pack to render the fan inoperable but it could possibly get hot enough to start a fire. Mine lasted about an hour. Being an aircraft electrician, I decided to have a look inside the battery pack to find the source of the burning smell. The battery pack is easily disassembled removing 4 screws. The fan speeds are controlled by a switch attached to a circuit board which uses a series of load resistors. Inside my unit were burned resistors, burned circuit board, poor (cold) solder joints and poor craftsmanship in general. If you own one of these fans, you a certain to experience problems. Running the unit on high speed only is recommended if you decide to keep it. Running on low speed will shorten the lifespan significantly.

I got this and another fan 02 cool, this one really does the job for a small fan. It is a little noisy, but that helps to block out other people still up at other camp sites. Since it has a seperate battery pack, you can use an AC adapter, and it will run on the high setting, which is awesome. They should sell it with the adapter.

My friend owns two of these and we went camping in Sept in Florida and these worked GREAT!!! We were out 2 nights and placed one in each window of the tent and during the night ran them on high speed ALL NIGHT 2 nights in a row and the batteries were still going! It sounds like a big mosquito but I was amazed how comfortable I was throughout the night with these!!!

I just got back from a camping trip where days were in the 90 degree range. I was very excited to use this window fan. After setting up, I put the fan on the window of the tent, turned it on low and went off to get ice. I got back about an hour later, and the fan was turning on and off. I went to dinner, and two hours later, the fan was not running at all. I went to check the batteries and had to drop the battery case because it was so hot it burned my hand, and smelled like the batteries were burning as well. I unplugged the fan, and let the batteries cool, then plugged it in again. Still nothing. I am returning the fan to Amazon, and will not buy another.

This camping ceiling fan worked so well. It is a must for the tent when it is hot, and you all know how tents get in the heat!!! This was amazing!!! I have camped for years and I have to admit that I was embarrassed at first for anyone to see that I had it, but I highly reccommend it.

Another cub scout-dad had this during our first warm-weather camping trip (in SE Florida) and I decided to try it. On the down-side the housing is made of brittle plastic and the first one actually arrived with shards falling out of the box, apparently either dropped or crushed. The most vulnerable part is the wire fan-stem connecting to the motor. If this cracks because you drop it or a child "plays" with the fan, it's toast.

It was quiet enough on high and lasted long enough. Nobody is going to get hurt by the soft blade, either.

It takes two people to mount it - one inside and one outside holding the magnetic frame, and I thought it was a little rough on the no-see-um mesh window but didn't find any problems afterward. I'll continue to worry... it's metal to metal and there's no telling if it'll somehow affect the gap-size of the mesh.

I don't know about rain (which is frequent, here). Depending on your rainfly this might be OK but if its not covered it's going to get wet. There is no way to zip your window shut from the inside without leaving this exposed unless you pull it off the magnet. It would be nice if there was a way to secure the magnet to the window somehow, because as soon as you pull it loose it's going to fall to the ground.

The battery pack is heavy and the power wire just shy of where we could zip our widow closed in the event of rain... not ideal. I held it in my lap most of the night, but I also wanted to watch the temperature because of other reviews.

It's better as a stand-up fan than a window-fan, but the window magnet makes it possible, anyway. As a stand-up fan the battery pack size issue goes away. So, I'm going to work with this a little to see if I can't somehow anchor the outside magnet to the mesh and find a way to prop the battery high enough, but if I can't we'll use it as an indoor fan most of the time.

This fan blows pretty hard, which is good, but it is very noisy. For people who are used to sleeping in a quiet environment, this could be too loud, especially on the high setting.
