A zippered door offers privacy when closed. The Beach Shade is constructed of heavy-duty polyester taffeta, with strong 14.5mm, 16mm and 20mm poles.
Enjoy instant shade on the beach without hauling along an unwieldy beach umbrella with the Coleman Instant RoadTrip beach shade. The Instant RoadTrip is convenient and versatile.
The canopy shades up to 2 people comfortably.
The beach shade is easy to pitch, with pre-attached poles that pop up in an instant. No assembly required and no parts to lose. To secure the shade to the ground, simply add sand to the bottom sand compartments. The shade's best feature, however, is its heavy-duty polyester taffeta fabric, which is covered by a UVGuard treatment. The fabric's superior 50+ UPF rating ensures that you'll stay safe from most harmful UVA and UVB rays. The shade--which measures 6 by 4 feet and stands 4 feet 7 inches tall--shades up to two people comfortably and includes a zippered door for privacy. The shade carries a limited one-year warranty.
More than 100 years ago, a young man with an entrepreneurial spirit and a better idea began manufacturing lanterns in Wichita, Kansas. His name was W.C. Coleman, and the company he founded would change life in America. A man plagued with such poor vision he sometimes had to ask classmates to read aloud to him, Coleman saw a brilliant light in 1900 in a drugstore window that stopped him in his tracks. He inquired about the light inside and discovered he was able to read even the small print on a medicine bottle by the illumination. The lamps had mantles, not wicks, and were fueled by gasoline under pressure instead of coal oil. Soon afterward, Coleman started a lighting service that offered a "no light, no pay" clause--a big step forward for merchants who were burned by inferior products that rarely worked--and drew substantial interest from businesses that wanted to keep their lights on after dark.
In the ensuing years, Coleman expanded its product line well beyond lanterns. The company's current catalog is thick with products that make spending time outdoors a pleasure. There are coolers that keep food and drinks cold for days on end, comfortable airbeds that won't deflate during the night, a complete line of LED lights that last for years, powerful portable grills that cook with an authentic open-grill flame, and much, much more. Coleman has truly fashioned much of our outdoor camping experience, and expects to do so for generations to come.

My main concern was how the zippers would hold up long term and also with sand getting in the zipper joints. It wasn't any problem for us this trip. I guess if you were to use it weekly, you might want something with heavy duty zippers just in case. We probably would only use this 2-3 times a year at the beach (though I think it may also be good for camping) and even if it dies in a couple years I would say it was more than worth it. Easy to set up, handy, easy to carry....makes me want to go to the beach more. Also someone said it is easy to pick out your "spot" from the water and I would say that is a plus too. In a sea of people and umbrellas, it was easy for us to look back to shore and find where we had to walk to. Probably reassuring for kids to be able to find their "home base" quickly after playing/walking around.
1/2014 UPDATE: GREAT
We used it on multiple occasions now and it beats roasting in the sun. Had tons of room for our things, it offered adequate ventilation when open. Held up great on windiest of days, when we secured it with stakes. On days that were not so windy we filled the side sand bags. Better than an umbrella, by far.
While I agree with many of the positive comments (roomy, sort of easy to put up, etc.) I feel it the lack of side windows are a real drawback. We used this shelter on a breezy day and because the wind was not directly blowing through the shelter it was very hot and stuffy inside.
Also if you have friends or family set up to the sides of you, you are completely cut off from them. Since most people set up facing the ocean view, anyone you go with will likely be to the side of you and you won't be able to conveniently interact with them. I'm thinking about cutting some windows in the sides but I'm afraid of ruining it.
My recommendation, buy a shelter that zips up like this one (a big selling point for me, so we could change and store our stuff) and ALSO has side windows.
