Product Description
The Coleman PerfectFlow InstaStart 2-Burner Propane Stove makes campside cooking a breeze. Each burner delivers a fully-adjustable 10,000 BTUs with dependable, matchless InstaStart push-button ignition. The PerfectFlow propane pressure control ensures consistent cooking performance by producing a steady fuel stream -- even in cold weather, at high altitudes, or when fuel is low. What's more, the folding WindBlock system provides side panels to block the wind and foster more efficient cooking. The panels can alternately be folded down to form side shelves, which can be convenient condiment or utensil holders. With both burners on High, the stove provides about an hour of cooking time on one 16.4-oz propane cylinder (sold separately). The stove's rust-resistant enamel-painted case and removable nickel-chrome grate are a breeze to clean, and the secure latching lid and convenient carry handle make it easy to bring along.

It has good, smooth range with regards to temperature and gets plenty hot while also maintaining a fair simmering temperatures as well. This is hard to find in a propane stove as they tend to range from Hot to Insanely HOT!
The built in handle concept where the control panel is integrated with the handle is a smart feature that you don't find on other stoves. No having to grab or support a hot stove with your hand to hit the ignitor button; say you are using one for a while before lighting the other. The surface area is adequate and the unit works quite well with a griddle.
The first one replaced a liquid fuel unit that routinely had problems and eventually caught fire. A second one caught fire about a week ago and resulted in the same thing. This is a very good camping stove!
Lastly, don't buy into the whole liquid fuel appliances being cheaper to operate than propane. If by cheaper, they mean malfunctioning units can't use fuel and are therefore more economical, they are correct. But the fact of the matter is that much if not most of the liquid fuel ends up going to pot as it has a limited shelf life. They say two years, I'd say more like half that. About half the white fuel I buy ends up being used as cleaning solvent in the garage.
The figures they use re propane cost are worst case scenario. I think the last one I saw was assuming a cost of roughly $4 per 16 oz cylinder. You can easily find it for $3 and I happen to refill mine off a 30 lbs BBQ tank with a readily available adapter for a cost of about 75 cents per unit.
One other note, I also purchased the Coleman Pack-Away Kitchen at the same time and used the same weekend, I thought it was worth pointing out that the propane tank on the right isn't well supported by the grill-side of the pack-away kitchen. Photos of the kitchen show the duel fuel stoves, and I think this is why. I plan to use a propane distribution tree in the future, so this shouldn't be an issue next time.
So far we've used it a few times and it has worked very well indeed. It has always easily started with the push of a button, the heat is easy to control, and the stove itself is light and easy to clean. It supplies even and good heat and we've used it with cast iron skillets with no problem. A 16 oz propane cylinder lasts more than an hour with both burners at high heat and several hours with one low burner. It's also very rugged.
It's an excellent camp stove for emergencies.
I got the bag to go with it and will do a separate review - and while it's handy the nylon fabric over one of the propane canisters shredded. I'll probable try to make a new fabric holder out of knit or something.
The built-in starter button is a nice touch. As for the flame difficulties that other reviewers report, I suggest that you might want a separate, hand-held spark lighter if you find the built-in spark a little small. As for the flame being hard to keep low, we found that using a burner plate/heat diffuser will allow better startup, lower simmer, more even flame and better breeze protection.
This is a reliable unit, easy to use, easy to clean. I still have a liquid-fuel Coleman stove (vintage 1955) but this is a much easier stove and delivers a good flame. I highly recommend it for campouts or as a backup for emergencies.
