But... it's heavy, it's messy, and it's no replacement for a proper grill at home.
We bought this grill because we live in an apartment and thought a "portable" grill would be a better idea than leaving a regular grill out in the common area. Plus, we would travel with it to parks and camp areas. This grill fit the bill, but just barely. That said, I it's the best solution available.
Pros: It does what it says it does.
- The water tray is shallow and long. So the grill has to be PERFECTLY LEVEL to fill the water tray enough to cover the entire length without spilling from the lower end.
- Good luck taking out the water tray to empty it without spilling greasy water all over yourself and everything else.
- Carrying the grill up apartment stairs can be a 2-man job.
- You have to fold the grill after it cools, and then let it drip dry before bringing inside. (Not a biggie, if you know to plan for it.)
- Screwing the gas bottle on and off at every use creates a risk of cross threading and ruining the grill.
- The latch holding the lid shut is just a joke. I think I use a luggage strap (always after grill has cooled).
How about a storage spot for the propane bottle when not in use?
Doesn't replace a a decent portable charcoal grille but the ease of propane saves this grille...barely
The grill can get very hot which is nice for a steak but easily burns food as well if you're not paying enough attention. Both sounded sides develop less heat which can be nice to place food which didn't require as much heat as a steak.
So I think the BBQ set is doing a bet good job but it requires some test runs to find out Gove to get your stuff bbqed to perfecting.
The only disappointing thing is the hood lock for transportation! This flimsy steel pin is too short and not strong enough!!! It alludes to the centre position and when you roll your bbq on Les even surface the pun bends a bit, the hood opens and the heavy grates falling off! That's horrible and I wonder that Coleman didn't check on that safety feature because my 3 year old son who walked behind me got 1 grate on his foot and got a big bruise but luckily nothing more. Now I secure the hood with a strong rubber strap which is of course ugly but fits the purpose!
Coleman, change your lock and you may get 5 stars instead of 4.
