There's a recent scientific study titled "Brief Report: The Virucidal Efficacy of Oral Rince Components Against SARS-CoV-2 in Vitro" which reported that "During a 30 second exposure, two rinses containing cetylpyridinium chloride and a third with ethanol/ethyl lauroyl arginate eliminated live virus to EN14476 standards". You can easily find this report and related articles on-line by googling the title.
The report describes laboratory studies of several mouthwashes. Subsequently, various medical professionals have issued the expected caveats about the use of any mouthwash as a treatment or preventative. Take those warnings seriously. Nonetheless, the downside risk of using a commercial mouthwash containing cetylpyridinium chloride (CPC) or ethanol/ethyl lauroyl arginate (LAE) is zero, while the potential upside is unknown but may be positive.
With that in mind, I researched numerous mouthwashes on Amazon. Most do not contain either CPC or LAE, and the ones with LAE tend to be fairly expensive. But Colgate Zero contains CPC and is very reasonably priced. So I ordered a bottle, and was pleasantly surprised to discover that it has an excellent taste. Nor is it astringent like the Listerine I had been using. I really like it, and expect to use it as my standard mouthwash irrespective of any anti-viral properties it may have. I've since ordered two more bottles for the rest of my family.
