Collage : A New Approach Paperback – January 1, 2001
by
Jonathan Talbot
(Author)
This book describes a new technique, developed by the author, which makes it possible to adhere collage elements without liquid adhesives. This technique eliminates wrinkling and drying time from collage-making, offering new opportunities for creative spontaniety. Also included is information on "paperless" transfer of printed and photocopied images, alternatives to adhesives, archival concerns, framing and presentation of finished works, and more.

Useful information
I bought this book for information and was initially hesitant because of the mixed reviews. I found the information very useful, however, I do not follow the instructions as provided by the author completely. The author provides information on different glues and the use of the tack iron. There is more information in the book if you like glue on everything, I don’t care for the glue finish. It’s a really small book and there’s no need to read it front to back unless you are new to the collage process. You can get what you need by skimming through. The book provided me the information I needed to modify and improve my process since there is such limited information on using a tack iron with collage out there.

The book is written as if being narrated by a friend who wants you to know everything he has learned through a lifetime of experimentation.

I love this this artists work and I was excited to see he had written a book on his techniques for collage making. I am not disappointed although I would love to see his work in a catalog some time. He is an amazing artist.
The appendix is really thorough as well. Some good suggestions for reading books on collage making as well as famous artists who have worked in collage.
I am looking forward to trying his techniques.

Still going thru this small, but very 'full' book on collage. I like what I am learning and applying this new knowledge will be a big step up in enjoying this art form.
At Talbot's suggestion, I have been researching the more modern artists who have used collage. Studying the collage of Picasso and Braques is amazing.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. First off this is not a book this is a booklet. Secondly the entire booklet is in black and white small print and it is beyond basic. It claims that the author came up with this revolutionary new technique to do collage. But all it really does is describe the process of using acrylic gels instead of adhesives, a process that has been done forever and there's nothing revolutionary or new about it. And the author most certainly did not come up with this one. Save your money and go to YouTube if you want any meaningful free info on using acrylic or artist gels for collage, transfers etc.

I'm not sure what and where the items needed to do his technique. The idea is good and I will try it after I buy the needed items.
