Describe your product in 3 words.
Simplifies Ironing Completely
How did you come up with the idea for this product?
After spending hours ironing shirts for the week and fighting frustration with pesky collars, I knew there had to be a simpler way to flatten collars. I wanted a way to quickly spot treat a garment only where ironing was needed and without the need of an ironing board. The initial design focused on just ironing shirt collars, however, this quickly expanded to address other difficult locations to iron. The final design provided a small and simple solution that allowed for quick touch ups in the hard to reach areas, but could transform its wings for more detailed coverage when needed.
What makes your product special?
Collar Perfect provides a simple and compact ironing solution that provides quick touchups without the use of an ironing board. Whether you need a quick touch up for full garment care, ironing garments can be done quickly and easily. Collar Perfect also has six heat settings, 110v or 220v electrical support, rotating power cord, and adjustable wings for touch ups on the fly.
What has been the best part of your startup experience?
We wanted to create a device that was simple and quick to use, and but in a small and compact size. It was a real challenge, because creating the functionality to provide for quick touch ups and traditional ironing while supporting a wide range of heat settings was a difficult challenge. We managed to achieve that goal by allowing the wings to pivot and including a floating heating elements to provide maximum surface area coverage. This design allowed us to create a small and compact sized unit that made it simple and easy to use.

The main problems:
1) The area where you grab and press the plates together gets HOT (obviously). There is no way around that you cannot grab just below them because you really need to squeeze hard to get the wrinkles out. Maybe get some gloves, but then they should include gloves with the item!
2) The unit takes multiple passes to get the wrinkles out because a pinching pressure is much much less than a firm downward press on a traditional travel iron.
Perhaps if I only needed to straighten out a wayward collar tip (as a previous reviewer had mentioned), this product would be ok; however, that is a severely limited functionality for a $35 iron...
There are 3 hinges—one backbone hinge where the blue power switch ring is, and one on either "wing" to allow the wings to spread so the Collar Perfect can pretend to be a regular iron. Unfortunately, those wing hinges also allow the opposing hot surfaces to spread apart if you squeeze the Collar Perfect back near the backbone. Instead, you must squeeze the wings together closer to their free ends (where the light grey iron surfaces are). But that's where it's hot! The black plastic on the wings gets extremely hot, and the only way I could get around the pain of squeezing the wings together around a stubborn shirt placket or collar was to use a potholder!!
This is going into our youth yard sale, unfortunately, because I can get better ironing from a real iron, and that won't blister my fingers.
It's not perfect by any means but it gets a solid 5 stars based on the gap it fills in my life, and probably yours.
This went right in the drawer at work, not planning to travel with it. I have a small office and even if I didn't, i'd get a healthy ration of crap if I brought in an ironing board and iron to work.
I have had plenty of days where I get to work and have that stupid collar that doesn't button down, and keeps popping up. Even with collar stays, sometimes collars are just ornery. All the attempts to fold it back, wet it down, and "will it" with all my willpower to please stay down, are unsuccessful.
This powers up quick, works just fine and can go back in the drawer within 15 minutes.
The thing that cinched the deal was the fold back feature. I needed to heat a veneer strip to the side of a credenza. This folded back and glued it on nicer than any professional tool I could have rented.
I still have an Iron at home and think it would be foolish to expect this to replace that. But for the money it's helpful for little jobs.
Lightweight, intuitive controls, a tad flimsy. But it comes with a carrying pouch that holds everything.
First of all, the temperature/fabric selector is very hard to use--it is a cheap toggle switch. I am going to see if Amazon will send me a new one hoping that it is broken and not a serious design flaw.
Second, they tried to make 2 products in one. The fold out "wings" makes the device hard to use if you just want to use it for collars. They should have offered a "wingless" unit for $x and if you needed a folding travel iron, make a second product for $x+$10 or whatever.
Yes, it works, but it could have been designed better. Maybe 2.0 will come out soon.
