Both movies are on individual discs so there is no quality reducing flipping of the BR DVDS. Saves space on your shelf as well.
Collateral Damage...Video transfer is relatively clean though it does have that softer filmic appearance and while there is grain if you look closely you will not find it to be omnipresent. The movie, surprisingly to me, has legs as a good popcorn movie. There was no artifacting or aliasing at all and the film retained detail in the darkest scenes of which there were many. However, it is not the best video transfer you are likely to come across as I was always aware of the soft imaging.
The audio is Dolby Digital HD 5.1. The film defaults to straight DD 5.1 which really sounded compressed as all get up. The DD 5.1 is the first on the list of languages so be sure to arrow down one to the HD DD. I made the mistake of not doing so and the audio compression was incredibly noticeable to me. Despite that, there is still good use of the surround system and discreet effects to the appropriate channels.
Eraser...Another film that has legs and very familiar faces in its cast. The video transfer to Blu Ray is, IMHO, considerably cleaner than that of Collateral Damage. The film is shot with warm coloration and I detected no grain, artifacting or aliasing at any point.
The audio for Eraser is also Dolby Digital HD 5.1 and it comes with very good use of discreet channeling for foley fx. The audio leveling was proper so once you set your volume levels there is no need to bring it up or down just to be able to hear something more clearly.Read more ›
Eraser had some really cool high tech ideas for its day, many of which ended up in the Perfect Dark games.
Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys classic action flicks or is a fan of Ahnawld.
PS. I especially like the Pizza Delivery scene in Eraser.
