I have read many of the reviews, and I agree wholeheartedly. One thing that I would like to add is this: you can just tell how crazy about each other they were! Keely clowns around, calling Louie "Luigi," and saying little asides, like "Holy mackerel there....." And Louie asks, "So what is MY heart made of, lasagna?" Little things like this are so spontaneous and delightful, they always make me smile.
I have heard and read about some less than great moments in their marriage, but I will choose to ignore all of that, and simply go by what I hear. I mean, Good Lord, who would think of something like blowing music into here (the mouthpiece), and then it goes round and round and down, and comes out here (the bell). It is all so visual!
Zooma Zooma is the song that caused me to buy the disc sight unseen. The second part of the medley is a good old Italian Tarantelle, which always brings me up. The background sounds of the people in the room cheering only adds to the fun for me.
THANK YOU for remastering this wonderful, jazzy, swingin' music.

Product Description
Capitol Collectors Series by Louis Prima
Amazon.com
Band leader and lounge kingpin Louis Prima will be best be known for the classic, "Just a Gigolo," immortalized by David Lee Roth for a whole new generation of swingers. But Prima's output went much further: in his day he recorded for Capitol, acted in a movie or two, even owned a golf course. Prima's genius is infectious: lounge, swing, and Dixieland all fuse together into medleys that are fun, dance-worthy, and upbeat. Prima's duets with Keely Smith are the obvious highlights here: "That Ol' Black Magic," "Hey Boy! Hey Girl!," and "I've Got You Under My Skin" are essential Prima tracks. Sure, the cheese factor occasionally runs high, but it is a fun trip. --Jason Verlinde

"Santa" gave this CD to my partner, who was thrilled and why not? The indelible Louis Prima lives again in this generous compilation album that includes his greatest hits such as "Just A Gigolo," "Jump, Jive and Wail" and "I've Got the World on a String." Even the less well-known selections are testaments to this versatile performer's energy and showmanship. For those who don't know Prima, he came out of New Orleans with a singular blend of jazz, Italian pop melodies and high-energy Fifties stylings. Along with wife/singer Keely Smith and tenor saxman Sam Butera "and the Witnesses" (sidemen), this infectious blend of post-big band music and R&B virtually defined Las Vegas music of the Fifties and is still going strong. Although this disc is a CD-R, fulfillment was fast and sound quality as good as it gets, with many of the tunes remastered in the early Nineties. Good times!

Been to many Italian weddings in my time, and, while listening to this CD, I was reminded of why Italian weddings are so much fun. Louis Prima and his band jump, jive, and wail on every track, and there are 26 on this collection. Everyone seems to be having a great time, and Keely Smith, Prima's very talented wife, belts them out with the best of them on this very satisfying CD.
There's a hint of many musical styles here, including Dixieland, Jazz, Popular, and Lounge. In listening to Prima sing some jazz standards, including "Basin Street Blues," "I've Got You Under My Skin," and "St. Louis Blues," you can hear how another New Orleans-born jazz master, Louis Armstrong, influenced him. It was Armstrong, one of the 20th century's musical pioneers, who virtually invented jazz singing (and scat singing). Prima takes that style in a different direction, with Sam Butera and The Witnesses providing the rollicking music. Of course, Prima's "Just a Gigolo," "Oh Marie," "Buona Sera," "Angelina Zooma Zooma," "Jump, Jive, and Wail," and "Sing, Sing, Sing" are included as well. A must have.

I was asked to order this CD on the request of my father in law, and he has been listening to it for weeks. At the end I put 5 stars because he loves it, as it probably reminds him when he was younger. Louis Prima in his time was quite famous as a jazz trumpet player (he had also studied violin), singer, dancer (he was called the King of Swingers), actor etc. He also gave his voice to the King Louie in the Book of the Jungle Disney movie. He is also famous for having re-interpreted the song "I' am just a gigolo". Even if I listen to bands that are far away from his style (Boards of Canada, Autechre, etc.), let say that Prima had a gift for melodies and a great sense of rhythm. To make your own opinion, you still can listen to him on Deezer for example.

I had never heard of Louis Prima until I saw a show featuring Louis Prima and Keely Smith's music at the WWII Museum in New Orleans. The show was good but not as good as the real Louis and Keely. I love this cd and every Louis Prima cd I have bought since. This cd as with the other three I have all have a upbeat tempo. You can hear a lot of the New Orleans jazz in his style of playing. When I don't want to be bothered with the stress in my life I play one of Louis Prima's cd's and I'm good for the rest of the day.

More fun than a barrel of hyper New Orleans Italians, Prima and his band--Sam Butera and the Witnesses--rocked Vegas for eight years with his weirdly hyper jazz/R&B interpretations of old standards. Read the other reviews here...they say it as well as I ever could, and they are all right...funny thing, though, when I was growing up I would see Prima on the Ed Sullivan Show and didn't like him much...I guess we all change our tastes with age...and no, it doesn't matter that most of my reviews are of classical recordings, a great performer is a great performer, and Prima was nuttier than a grocer's case full of fruitcakes!!

The CD is of great quality and arrived ahead of schedule. Having heard many Louis Prima songs before ever owning an album, I thought all of his songs would be perfect and golden. Well, in the Capitol Collectors Series there are a couple of weird filler songs but overall the songs are enjoyable. I was even pleasantly surprised toward the end of the album, when I discovered fine quality jazz tracks.
Overall I am glad to own some of Louis Primas greatest hits and I don't regret a thing. However, with how weird a couple of songs are I probably won't seek to own everything Prima's made.

Louis Prima is a veritable god of swing and this remastered recording is lush. The digital remastering is delightfully balanced, some mono, some stereo, all oozing charm, fun and saucy New Orleans swing.
Louis' distinctive vocals and beat perfect trumpet are complimented by his awesome bands, terrific singers and the odd guest appearance.
This CD has a few unusual gems in amongst the well known tunes, smokey ballads, jump, jive it's all there.
Check the price too, stupid cheap. Buy it.

If you haven't heard him before - try! You may never forget him!! This is a second purchase as our teenage daughter took our first to a party and lost it... [I think a sign that it is wonderful to dance to...] Not for everyone's tastes, but if you like fun and a good beat - yes!

As a fan of Louis Prima for many years,i have to say this is Prima in his rock'n'roll years & although is jazz tinged you cannot deny these tracks were aimed at the fiftie's teenagers.
Every track is a dance classic that was intended for you to jive to.
Louis has a rhythm section that is second to none & a voice that was pure magic to the ears & Sam Butera to blast you away & forget your troubles for a few hours.
Top tracks for me are Sheik of Araby & Sleepy time down south, but as i first mentioned all the tracks on this album are classics.
Louis was'nt just an entertainer he was also a great musician & song writer whose career started in the 1930's with his song writing's being use by some of the great swing bands of the time.
Buy this album then buy one of his earlier career & you can see he was born to make dance music & make people enjoy themselve.
Happy listening!!!!!!!!!!!!.
