Not only is the twisted love story of Harlow and Mr. Bentley captivating, but there is so much more to Collide. J.C. Hannigan creates incredible characters with troubles of their own, but somehow they are all intertwined together creating surprising twists and turns. There is a darkness to the story involving issues such as rape, sexual abuse, corruption, pregnancy and mental illness. (*Trigger Warning*)
This is a New Adult book that I definitely recommend and I cannot wait to get my hands on Consumed, the second volume to the Collide Series.
Harlow & Iain aren’t the typical couple. They aren’t what one would normally find themselves diving into the world of and enjoying the read. Harlow’s life has been hard. She’s suffered much more than most high school students, and she’s suffered most of it alone. Iain is actually her high school English teacher.
Their first encounter is the tipping point for their relationship. Though he’s 11 years older than her and she should be off-limits they pursue something together. He’s able to comfort her and bring her back to life in a way she hasn’t ever really been.
At one point when they’re discussing the fact that their relationship shouldn’t be happening, Iain says to Harlow five words that resonated with me -- even now after finishing the book.
You love who you love.
The story takes some twists and turns and has some subject matter that would be hard for those who have suffered from traumatic sexual experiences. I did enjoy this story and can’t wait to continue the trilogy.
Harlow immediately falls hard for a PLL Mr. Fitz-type English teacher and their forbidden relationship dominates the book's storyline. Which also includes (trigger) events of rape, gang rape, sexual assault and teen pregnancy. The characters are real and the plot takes fast twists and turns, including an unexpected ending. This is the kind of book I started and did not want to put down until I finished. It's New Adult genre, very well-written, and left me wanting the next book in the series!
In the midst of everything, Harlow and her English teacher Iain fall in love. They are careful to keep their relationship a secret. However, pictures surface.
I can't out into words how much I loved this book. It grabbed me from the beginning and would not let me go. Harlow is an amazing and seeing young woman, the kind parents want their daughters to grow up to be. She isn't perfect, but she fights for what she believes in.
Will Harlow and Iaian last, or will the pictures tear them apart?
Book #2, Consumed, comes out in December 15 and I cannot wait!!
