BEST ELEMENTS OF LOST, WALKING DEAD, AND V. One of the best unseen programs of all time. Sadly, I feel this went largely unseen, but I am a huge fan of this show! It definitely has a place in my top 10. SO GOOD. How is Josh Holloway not a bigger star?!

This is one of my current favorite series and I'll be really disappointed if there isn't a season 2.

I'm a huge sci-fi geek and particularly love alien and post-apocalyptic type stories. This combines both - well, I guess the majority of alien based movies are both anyway. There is something reminiscent of District 9...perhaps it's just that the human colonies are divided up into various walled districts and further divisions within separating various socioeconomic groups (but supposedly based on level of trust and loyalty to the alien controllers).

The main premise is a family in one of these districts and one of their children, a teen, who happened to be in an area far enough away when the divisions occurred that he is stuck in a different district. The father previously was a cop/investigator type person but he's not doing that with the current alien approved government initially, and instead he's plotting how to find and retrieve his son. The wife/mother is a physician, but also a rebel, so when the father (minor spoiler) is recruited to work for the alien regime (with no option to really say no) you have an added tension/story-line. They family has a child who requires insulin which, under the alien regime must be obtained illegally, as essentially those with such diseases are permitted to die, leaving only those who are healthier to survive and continue on the gene pool. The wife/mother also has a sister who seems to be a bit reckless and prone to trouble making which causes tension between the sisters.

I enjoy the multiple story lines and the show overall and it's one of my current favorites, along with 12 monkeys (the series, not the older movie), Wayward Pines,& Grimm (to give an example of my tastes). I tend to like most all sci-fi that is plot & storyline based instead of focused on fighting, violence, blood and guts (which most scifi movies seem to be these days).

Bought this several years ago on DVD but wanted bluray version. Thankfully Viavision's plays in Region A & B players so mine played fine in a player I bought at Target in NC. Series is about aliens taking over the planet but has some interesting twists. No spoilers I promise, except that El Tigre Loco didn't save us. Started watching Season 2 last night (also Viavision bluray). Just glad I could get all 3 seasons on bluray. Thank you Amazon & thank you Viavision. Viavision probably encodes them for region A & B because numerous countries close to Australia are Region A too including Japan, Taiwan, & South Korea. Only downside to this release is no lossless audio present. Just multi-channel Dolby Digital. Take what I can get.

I am a Josh Holloway fan and so far, really like the first season. I admit, I find the wife character to be annoying. I'm not a fan of spouses not being honest with each other, and I find the wife to be a bit treacherous. I also admit to feeling the 'resistance' is going about things the wrong way. Cooperation and sabotage might be a better way to resist the invaders, than outright blowing stuff up all the time, which seems kind of silly. The resistance knows nothing about the enemy so more espionage really is needed I think, especially given the enemy's superior forces.

We'll see what the future holds but so far, I'm hooked.

I enjoyed the first episode! It was nice to see Josh Holloway again and I hope the show does well for his sake.

The main reason I'm leaving the review is to counter the false one star ratings. PLEASE don't rate amazon's service or methods. The only thing that suffers when you give it a 1 because you're displeased with Amazon is the show itself. Nobody from Amazon will even see your complaint. So please, once the show starts, if you like it, consider changing your rating. Amazon's policies and imperfections have nothing to do with the show, which is what looks bad because of the low ratings. The show is pretty good and will no doubt get better as we get deeper into the story. Unfortunately, people may be less likely to give it a fair chance because of the low rating.

Good show, good actors, etc. Not heavy on special effects or shoot outs; it didn't need it. In the genre with Falling Skies, but not a rip off of that. Each season was different situation. Season 3 ended with an exciting prospect of the humans fighting a different kind of alien in league with the first kind. Its maddening that a 4th season has not made and released.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Series, close aspects and criticism to reality
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on February 11, 2017
First of all we are in near future in L.A. Moreover we know only the facts the involved persons know and their knowledge only slowly increases. The first point is of course that the creators show you a mirror during the series and you normally begin to ask yourself how you would behave. But from my point of view the more interesting thing is how the already existing surveillance structures contribute to the bad state people are in. Only hours after the arrival nearly all resistance is broken because the authorities collaborated and gave those who arrived all kind of information. Congratulations! This is the real message of this series. I wonder if it will be broadcast on a broader level, but I doubt it. Maybe it will disappear like "Jericho" did in the past due to connections too close to reality.
There are English subtitles. Amazon refuses to add this information though I bought the DVDs! Why?

4.0 out of 5 stars GRIM CONDITIONS, AGONIZING CHOICES
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on May 4, 2017
Los Angeles in the near future, barely a year after The Arrival. A high wall surrounds, inhabitants subjected to strict rule. Drones, redcapped military, curfews and strict penalties all deter opposition.. As ever in such a situation, there is the choice to comply or rebel. What, though, if resistance only makes matters worse?

Focus is on the Bowman family, headed by Will and Katie (Josh Holloway and Sarah Wayne Callies). At first they seem happy enough., but all is far from well. What has become of son Charlie? Will current circumstances tear the family apart?

Expect to be perplexed, for a lot mystifies. (After all, one of the creators was also responsible for "Lost".) Who are these invaders, they curiously not evident? How do they communicate? How much of the world has been affected?

Such vagueness may initially irritate, but gradually the series takes hold - helped by strong central performances, including Peter Jacobson's wily Governor Snyder The early death of a prominent character (my favourite one actually) increases apprehension about what may happen to others - a ploy to ensure tension ever mounts.

Unusually there is no clear distinction drawn between the good and bad. Freedom fighters or terrorists? Much depends on one's point of view. Throughout history right up to today, so many have had to decide to conform or oppose. Admittedly, as yet, no aliens have been involved - but sadly never a shortage of ruthless leaders determined to subject whole populations to their will.

Ten episodes, they increasingly exciting. A bonus describes how the series came about and how special effects (like that wall and a Los Angeles without cars) were achieved. Cast are invited to say how they would react in similar circumstances - their answers interestingly varied.

Welcome a thought-provoking series with no easy answers.

Another great TV series that few have heard of, though it's interesting to see where one of the "Lost" team has ended up... Very entertaining, well-worth buying and good for two or three episodes at a time - so when will Season Two be ready for release...? Note to whichever TV or movie company made this series - great job, please consider the simple fact that if you sack all but one of your accountants, you'll save enough in otherwise wasted salaries to pay for Season Two...!
