I never heard of Pretty Lights until one of my invisible (cyber) friends tweeted a link to this album (thanks, Drew). You can listen to the entire album on their site. So, I was sitting here doing my thing on the computer and listening to Pretty Lights in the background. It was REALLY good. It was so compelling, I was distracted from the other things I was doing. I've only recently started listening to the electronic music genre and I realize there is a lot to explore, but I'm pretty sure this is a good one.

There's a second CD with this. It's samples and stuff from their sessions. I actually like the 2nd CD even more than the primary CD.

Because the artist has been so generous in giving away his tunes in the past (as evidenced by visiting his website), I think it's important to support his work by purchasing this album. Thus, I am doing so tonight. I hope you will all do the same.

I'm gonna go create a playlist with Pretty Lights, Daft Punk, Pink Floyd, Jefferson Airplane, Otis Redding, and Two Steps From Hell. Now, if only weed were legal in my state! ;)

I've been waiting for the release of this album for quite some time and it didn't disappoint. Derek is such a talented DJ, I never get tired of listening to his music over and over again. Such a diverse unique sound. Absolutely love it. He even offers his music for free on his site (which I did take advantage of in the past); but I feel this is money well spent.
Thank you Derek. Can't wait to see you live!

You just don't find music like this lying around in a Best Buy bargain bin. Pretty Lights has been creating these indelible offerings for years now, and I've yet to find any artists in his genres of expertise who come close. To call him a DJ almost feels like a disservice; the lengths he went to to produce this album in particular make me think of him even more as a composer. At risk of sounding sappy, he honestly has a great gift for making danceable, memorable, and SOULFUL music. The kaleidoscope of moods and feelings present on this album is such a treat. 'Color Of My Soul' is up-beat and pumping. 'Let's Get Busy' is a nastily nice fight anthem. 'Yellow Bird' (my favorite track) is lilting and haunting in a bright, pretty, and light way (see what I did there?). 'So Bright' grows and fades at a rhythmic pace both compelling and uncertain (if that makes sense... I think it does...).

Ever since I've kept up with his releases, I catch myself running errands or slaving away at work or hanging with friends when I'm hit with a melody from one of his latest tunes, and all I want to do is stop what I'm doing and get enveloped by that song. He tastefully melds the staples of electronica/dub step/trip hop with soul/jazz/funk, and none of it gratuitously. The fact that he unfailingly continues to post HQ files of all of his music for free on his website handily hands today's music moguls their overgrown backsides and proves he's not in it for the money, and as such is most worthy of receiving ours. If you're new to Pretty Lights, immerse yourself in this album and then dive in to his back catalog. It's all good. If you're already familiar with Pretty Lights, you know what to do!

This album is very unique in that the music is great to work out to, relax to, or just have playing in the background at work to make the day go better. Listened to this from start to finish in the past couple of weeks more than any other album, alt. rock or electronic, this year. Now a big fan.

I work in an "open plan" office so I'm always looking for music to drown out the chatter and noise. I came across Pretty Lights several months ago. They offer all of their music on their website for free (or a donation). I had a credit with Amazon and this way the songs are already in my Amazon music account.

One of the greatest albums ever made, if for no other reason than for the methodology the D.V.S. used in order to accomplish his vision. If you enjoy music at all, you should watch the video about how this album was made: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xpcs0Caq9A0
because no one has ever used this methodology to make an album before. That said, if you just listened to the album and knew nothing about how it was made, you will probably still be astonished with the final results. I have listened to this album literally hundreds of times, constantly since it was released. Pretty Lights Music, including the Hot Sh*t radio show is quite literally the soundtrack for my day to day life. Personally, I still have a hard time accepting that Daft Punk and their silly little chincy album won the Grammy for the year over this album. Mind boggling how that decision was made and what criteria may have been used in order to arrive at that decision, other than popularity. Top tracks on this album appear to not even have been reviewed: Color of My Soul is as badass as it gets in this genre, drums and soul vocals. Done Wrong is a magical track that makes the listener feel like the electricity of soul energy is literally flowing through your very being in a very realistic and tangible way. Finally, the last track My Only Hope is incredible if for no other reason than the degree of desperation you feel from the vocal hook; this man is truly on his last legs of tolerance for whatever it is that is at issue, as we all have felt in our lives. The passion and emotion is so real it is tangible.
