The designs by artist Michal Sparks are very pretty and should be fun to color but they are meant to highlight the words. These are not designs that are cute but rather more elegant. I believe that as I color each design, I will be able to spend time contemplating what is being said at the same time. It will not only be a relaxing time but one of spiritual refreshing and being upheld. These will be the perfect thing to color when the day has been difficult and I need the extra time to meditate on what is good and true.
The designs in the book are printed on one side of the page with the back side left blank. The paper is white and is a medium weight. While the pages are not perforated, there is plenty of room between the design and the binding for cutting the pages out if you so choose. The binding is glued rather than sewn.
I have tested and all of my markers (water and alcohol-based) leak through the page. Gel pens do not leak through but I can see a shadow on the back side of the page. This is not a serious issue as you can place a piece of waste paper behind the page you are working on to keep ink from seeping through. I recommend card stock, chipboard, or heavyweight paper. Sometimes just a sheet of regular paper is not enough.
I am so pleased that there appears to be many Bible and Christian related adult coloring books being published. It is a wonderful way to end the day. I look forward to coloring in this book and giving thought to the particular Psalm that I am reading and how it has had an effect on my life.
She was SO excited to receive it! She posted a picture on Facebook with a caption that included the phrase "Best. Gift. Ever." and it received many likes and comments (I know, the true mark of popularity today). Everyone wanted to know where it was from, and several said they were going to purchase.
She loves the designs. They are intricate and nice looking without being too difficult to color or make look good. She loves the Bible verses in them.
It turns out (unbeknownst to me) she had just purchased a coloring book, but after buying it she didn't care for it very much. This, on the other hand, she loves. It takes several hours to do a page, because the designs are intricate. But she was so into it that she completed her first page that weekend, in several small chunks of time.
FYI I purchased with "Sharpie 37172 Ultra Fine Point Permanent Marker, Assorted Colors, 12-Pack"
Those markers worked great. My aunt had previously been using color pencils, but these make your pictures look much better, in our opinion. There was some bleed. It probably wouldn't affect your next coloring page, but we always used a small piece of cardboard in between the pages, just in case.
