About the Author

Kim Headlee lives on a farm in southwestern Virginia with her family, cats, goats, Great Pyrenees goat guards, and assorted wildlife. People and creatures come and go, but the cave and the 250-year-old house ruins-the latter having been occupied as recently as the mid-twentieth century-seem to be sticking around for a while yet. Kim is a Seattle native and a direct descendant of twentieth-century Russian nobility. Her grandmother was a childhood friend of the doomed Grand Duchess Anastasia, and the romantic yet tragic story of how Babushka escaped Communist Russia with the aid of her American husband will most certainly one day fuel one of Kim's novels. Another novel in the queue will involve her husband's ancestor, the seventh-century proto-Viking king of the Swedish colony in Russia. For the time being, however, Kim has plenty of work to do in creating her projected 8-book Arthurian series, The Dragon's Dove Chronicles, and other novels clamoring for attention. She has been a published novelist since 1999, beginning with the original editions of Dawnflight (Sonnet Books, Simon & Schuster, ISBN 0671020412) and Liberty (writing as Kimberly Iverson, HQN Books, Harlequin, ISBN 0373771347). --This text refers to the paperback edition.

This is the first story I have read my Kim Headlee and I had enjoyed it. This is a very quick read and an interesting read. This is a prequel to her Dawnlight series. This is a historical piece.
We start out at Prince Badulf invading a village. A family is at the center of this and extremely bad things happen. This ignite a village war. Dwras, the head of the family, want revenge for what has happen. He is taken by a group of warriors but will he find what he is looking for.
This story is full of action but remember this is a short prequel to the series. I look forward to the first book and see if some questions in my mind are answered or cleared up. But it’s a good short read and an interesting introduction to the series.

I liked this story but took me a little to catch on that it was a story about Arthur Pendragon and a villager that he showed mercy to. The villager was a survivor on an attacked village,where he saw his family die. But Arthur showed kindness and took him with his soldiers. While guarding another village, that is attacked he will be ask to show mercy, can he? It was a good story but and I will read more to see if I find out more about the Author's point of view of that time.

This book has been collecting virtual dust in my Kindle, just waiting to be read. Initially acquired mostly out of curiosity than anything else, my curiosity paid off. Kim has woven a masterful tale of war and fantasy that grabs your attention from the very moment you begin reading.

Unlike most Arthurian fantasy stories, this one is neither about a king, the Round Table, Camelot, nor about the questing. This is about a chieftain trying to protect his lands from invaders. No Merlin here, just the blood of battle. A unique and original spin on an old legend.

This is a Prequel to get you ready to read the first story Dawnflight. When Prince Badulf and his army raid Dwras village and kill his wife and son along with his friends and other town folk, he sets off to find Chieftain Loth to join his crew in stopping the raiders from hurting other villages. Dwras is out for vengeance. I am anxious to see what will happen in the first book now that I have read this prequel. You feel sorry for Dwras but he has found a way to honor his loved ones memories.

A good read..........I was sorry it was so short. I felt like I was there....on both sides, the hungry raider and the Celtic farmer defending his hearth and stead.....very enjoyable. The hard scrabble life of the so called "dark age" after the fall of Rome is aptly described here with out losing the gist of the story..as well as the passion and pain inherent with the loss of ones close to you....It's a real time view of the reality of a life that our ancestor's beloved Saga's and Epic Poems were made from. I have read many Arthurian stories and books and this one will remain a favorite short story.

This is a super quick read, but it's well written and interesting. It focuses on raiders invading a village and the destruction they leave in their wake. From that moment, Dwras's life changes. Although extremely short, the story does capture an array of emotions and draws the reader in. I look forward to continuing with this series.
