These are excellent budget priced color pencils. The color lays down very smoothly and the pigment is good. They blend, shade, and layer very well. The core is medium to hard but is very smooth in application. In feel they remind me of the Polychromos and Polycolors, probably because they are oil based pencils. They are not as vivid as the Prismacolors, but neither are any of the other pencils that I have used. They do however cover very well and leave little to no white on the paper unless you choose to color very lightly. Even on paper with a lot of texture (tooth) they cover well with multiple layers.
The attached Images appear a bit duller than the actual pictures are. As a point of reference, the words in the floral picture are quite black in real life, not the dull dark gray they appear in the scanned image. the colors swatches were done on sketch paper that was ivory and a bit rough in texture. The other pictures were done on bright white, smooth, medium weight paper in a coloring book.
The color range is good for the most part. I could have used a darker true red and another medium brown shade, but the greens and blues are very nice. I also like the variety of pastel shades.
They have a silver painted casing and hexagonal shape, with the core color painted on the end. There are no color names only numbers on the pencils. The accuracy of the color on the end varies. They keep a decently sharp point. I had very little trouble sharpening them with a hand held sharpener. Of the several that I sharpened I did have 1 that the lead broke off during sharpening.
The box they come in is thin cardboard and I have transferred them to a roll up pencil case. The box did come undamaged and I had no broken tips.
Overall I really like coloring with these pencils and would recommend them to anyone who is looking for a nice inexpensive set to use for coloring books.
The pencil leads are tightly bonded to the pencil and the leads sharpen well with my Prismacolor Premier sharpener. (It's made specially for softer pencils and is a must for all good pencils.) I use the pencils with my gel pens for more colors and textures and filling in large areas, among other things.
Note--I bought a canvas roll case for the pencils--makes them easy to use and you can always find the right pencil. (You can't work out of the box they came in.)
