Chance the Rappers 2016 album, Coloring Books, in my opinion is one of his strongest releases of the year and of his career so far. Through the use of music tools such as gospel, rap and piano while discussing topics of drugs, struggles, and music he created an obviously cohesive album that flows from one song to the next.
Starting with the positives of this album, some songs worth listening to include All Night, Same Drugs, and All We Got. Starting with All Night, Chance uses 1980s Chicago Styles seen in early rap to create a catchy beat that you can't stop yourself from dancing along. Paired with Knox Futures work this piece discusses the risk of fame and how people will use you for your wealth. This pairing of a past beat style and modern day issue is a fascinating song that makes it one of the best songs on the album. Same Drugs takes a different turn having a slower beat I feel takes an almost more lyrical approach discussing a past relationship that diverged due to change of interest. All We Got has to be the number one song album as Chance uses a Child Choir from Chicago alongside icon Kanye West to describe his relationship to music and current life. The song is extremely uplifting with the impressive child choir tastefully paired with rap music in a new and fascinating way rarely seen.
Now looking from a negative point of view, one complaint towards this album would have to be the extensive list of features. There is not one song on the album that does not have another artist featured in it other than Same Drugs. In one way it can be argued that it's impressive he was able to pull big names and create a collaborative album but it almost feels like a crutch when there are almost no solo songs.
Overall, this album is extremely impressive even with the flaws it may contain and marks an important stage of music in 2016, definitely worth a listen.

Varying levels of sound quality and label on side C is bubbled
Side A has some issues on the 3rd and 4th track with lots of cracking. Side C the label is super bubbled and peeling (pictured) outside of Side A though the sound seems to be fine though.
