I live in southern Arizona and work in an office with a business professional dress code. You can't beat these pants for function and style. They breath well when it's scorching hot outside, they stretch in all the right places, they bead water off nicely (damn sprinklers), and yet still look 100% professional when matched with dress shoes and a button down.
I own the Columbia Global Adventure II in the grey and khaki colors as well. The version III is a nice update. They moved the right leg utility pocket from a horizontal zipper below the right pocket to a verticals zipper tucked behind the right pocket. This hides it away and makes the pants look more professional and a little less outdoorsy, which I like.
I also own a few golf slacks (Nike and Addidas) and these pants beat them hands down if you're looking for comfort.
With that said, a few quibbles: The inseam is considerably longer than indicated, by at least an inch or two. May wish to have them hemmed after purchase, or ever buy a size down. (Columbia, why the big size variation?) Waist is loose but not unreasonably so. The inner zippered pocket, however, is simply too small to be very usable. They're travel pants; that pocket should at least big enough to easily fit a passport, and it's not. (Yes, if you work you can squeeze a passport in there, but it's a pain, and uncomfortable.)
Also, a word of advice: Buy black. The "kettle" color is far too light to be good for travel - not sure why they even offer it. Your pants aren't going to look so good with oil stains all over them, and when you're traveling it's nearly inevitable you're going to drop some food eventually.
They have them available in "rare" waist/length combos (might have to go direct to the Columbia site to find them, but usually in stock at Amazon) so you can get pants that really fit you.Truly outstanding.
Thin material, but we'll made. They say it's breathable, water and sun resistant. So far I can attest to that. Any type of clothing is going to be sun resistant. I spray lawns here and was hoping for a good pair water resistant pants. The pants did bead up water real well in the beginning, but as much as I wear them they started to take in water.
Great pants though.
I will buy these in black.
I like the simple, clean styling. Too many "travel" pants look like travel pants.
