Because the Omni-Heat lining reflects the heat that your own body makes, if you sit still in one place for too long without moving (waiting a long time for a bus, for example), you can start to cool off a little. I've found that a pocket sized reusable heat pack will heat it up inside, and that amazing lining will keep the heat in, but that's only an issue if you don't move at all. Even walking around you can work up plenty of heat. The pockets are spacious and zip closed, even the inner breast pocket holds a Kindle with no issues.
The only issue I've found is that the lining does feel very weird on bare skin, and the jacket is lined all the way down the sleeves. So if you just wear a tee or polo, it will take some getting used to. With a long sleeved tee or light sweater though, you'll be ready to bring on the snowy weather.
I have a Columbia fleece which I've owned and worn for over 8 years, and it looks brand new, so this is a clear change in material or something that has turned me off of future Columbia products. I have a total of 5 pieces of Columbia garments, and this is the first one that has behaved this way (but it is also the newest item), and I fear a change for the worse in workmanship is afoot @ Columbia.
Bottom line: The design, structure, and function are great on this jacket, but the aesthetic external "wool-like" external material will ball-up under normal use. If that doesn't bother you, then this is a good buy - but I like my things to look their age, and this thing has aged very poorly in a single season.
I will say this jacket does have one drawback, or design flaw, caveat, whatever you want to call it... It has no draw string around the waist. You'll be walking along with your core nice and cozy (minus your legs, hands, feet, pretty much whatever you cant fit in the jacket) and all the sudden you'll move wrong and a gust of nice cold air shoots up the bottom to remind you what you're missing out on.
My suggestion to Columbia would be to add a drawstring to the next version of this jacket, Then it will get the full 5/5 stars from me.
Also, a very stylish jacket. The fit was as expected, possibly a bit larger than a "true to size" jacket would be, but that's actually kind of good for this jacket.
Overall a great buy!
I only rated this 4 instead of 5 because I like it rather than love it. It doesn't have a hood so it's kind of awkward to justify wearing in really cold weather, and yet its warmth is its strength. It's not very bulky though so it would work fine in cool weather as well.
I wish it had more pockets (only the two out front); an inside pocket would have really done the trick. But I knew all this before I bought it, so I really can't complain.

Very warm for a layer if you move in it. Just sitting it doesn't feel as warm as regular fleece jackets. Very good layer type jacket.Published 6 months ago by Cory Shelton
Very comfortable, great quality jacket. It is a bit too light and the picture makes it look larger and more thick. Read morePublished 7 months ago by steve
