This jacket replaced a heavy wool pea coat in my winter weather lineup, and it is holding up as well as my old coat did. The windproofing on this is ridiculous, all you feel is pressure on the outside of the jacket, like somebody is pushing against you slightly. The jacket itself is extremely lightweight, but don't let that fool you, I have been wearing this jacket with nothing but a polo underneath in temperatures in the 20's and I barely feel the cold. I especially like the wool-like material and styling that is at home in an office setting.
Because the Omni-Heat lining reflects the heat that your own body makes, if you sit still in one place for too long without moving (waiting a long time for a bus, for example), you can start to cool off a little. I've found that a pocket sized reusable heat pack will heat it up inside, and that amazing lining will keep the heat in, but that's only an issue if you don't move at all. Even walking around you can work up plenty of heat. The pockets are spacious and zip closed, even the inner breast pocket holds a Kindle with no issues.

The only issue I've found is that the lining does feel very weird on bare skin, and the jacket is lined all the way down the sleeves. So if you just wear a tee or polo, it will take some getting used to. With a long sleeved tee or light sweater though, you'll be ready to bring on the snowy weather.

I REALLY liked this when I first received. I'd been looking for this specific jacket for a while, and it works exactly as advertised. Lightweight, but warm down to about 25 deg. F. Good barrier, and definitely warms up quickly with any activity through body heat reflection. The mechanics and fit of the jacket are exactly spot on, 5 star stuff. However, I have worn this for a single season, and never washed it (I take care of my things and generally don't get the coat dirty). But, the coat's "wool" part on the outside has balled very badly already. I have used this jacket to commute to work (in a car) most of the time, and 5-10 light hikes. I don't know why it has balled up so quickly/badly. The material on the outside, aesthetically, is far below par.
I have a Columbia fleece which I've owned and worn for over 8 years, and it looks brand new, so this is a clear change in material or something that has turned me off of future Columbia products. I have a total of 5 pieces of Columbia garments, and this is the first one that has behaved this way (but it is also the newest item), and I fear a change for the worse in workmanship is afoot @ Columbia.
Bottom line: The design, structure, and function are great on this jacket, but the aesthetic external "wool-like" external material will ball-up under normal use. If that doesn't bother you, then this is a good buy - but I like my things to look their age, and this thing has aged very poorly in a single season.

This jacket is super warm, semi stylish and all around great. I've worn this when the air temperature was -20F and had no issues staying warm. You would think that the inside would feel rough and not great against your skin, its actually not its quite comfortable. When its cold out and the humidity is low you will definitely feel the static however.

I will say this jacket does have one drawback, or design flaw, caveat, whatever you want to call it... It has no draw string around the waist. You'll be walking along with your core nice and cozy (minus your legs, hands, feet, pretty much whatever you cant fit in the jacket) and all the sudden you'll move wrong and a gust of nice cold air shoots up the bottom to remind you what you're missing out on.

My suggestion to Columbia would be to add a drawstring to the next version of this jacket, Then it will get the full 5/5 stars from me.

I got this thing expecting heavy use, living in Colorado. It really does the trick. When we had the recent cold front hit us where it reached -2 degrees in the morning, I shoveled snow out in the driveway and this things still kept me warm. Does a great job of trapping body heat.
Also, a very stylish jacket. The fit was as expected, possibly a bit larger than a "true to size" jacket would be, but that's actually kind of good for this jacket.

Overall a great buy!

It definitely does keep you warm. I just tried it out in piercing cold wind with snow outside and my torso was none the wiser. (Granted, I had a shirt and light sweatshirt underneath, but I would have been freezing in just that.) ALSO! Of note: the inner lining is light grey with a grid of tiny shiny silver dots, making the inside look very shiny silver overall. This looks either swag or gay, depending on your viewpoint. I'm going with swag. Since it's a lining, though, it's not visible when worn.

I only rated this 4 instead of 5 because I like it rather than love it. It doesn't have a hood so it's kind of awkward to justify wearing in really cold weather, and yet its warmth is its strength. It's not very bulky though so it would work fine in cool weather as well.

I used the jacket for the first time during a very windy and cold NYC day. While the wind chill hovered at around 20 degrees. the jacket kept me warm with only a very light henley below.

I wish it had more pockets (only the two out front); an inside pocket would have really done the trick. But I knew all this before I bought it, so I really can't complain.
