They are only "water proof" up to about an inch of water if that. I use them as my daily shoe and we have had a series of rainstorms the last week or so. Only once during the storms did my feet feel damp, but I also wasn't trying to get my feet wet. I wouldn't go puddle jumping in them, but for casual use they're perfect.
I needed winter shoes and I opted for Columbia sneakers. Winter in Moscow is usually from + 4 to -10 (not often the temperature drops below)
Therefore, these sneakers are ideally suited for the Moscow winter. Moreover, I managed to test them for a month. Very comfortable and I like the design. great sneakers I have nothing more to add
UPDATE: I'm returning to this product roughly one year after its purchase. I downgraded to 3 stars (from 4) mostly due to the fact they didn't last one year. Again, I wore these outdoors 5-6 days a week from mid August of 2018 (when purchased) through December, then again from March to just a few days ago when I threw them out (holes, wear and tear, etc) for my new pair. Though they didn't last very long I stilled remained with the Columbia family and ordered another style of shoe, similar to the North Plains I retired. My feelings on the Columbia brand clearly haven't really changed. If you wear these a few times a week for a few hours (instead of 40+ hours) I'm sure they'll last you a long time. Looking forward to my new pair.

Two things to know... in my case they came up a bit small (they have quite a pointy toe, so I got them a half size larger to compensate), and the heel comes up quite high. If you're not used to that then you may get a bit of rubbing on your Achilles, so make sure to wear them in before doing anything too serious in them.
Not the greatest looking pair of shoes but it is very hard to find anything this big that isn't a running shoe.
Fit well and are comfortable.
