About the Designer
You don’t want to mess with Sensei James Williams. Trust us. A former U.S. Army officer with over 50 years of experience in the martial arts, he developed The System of Strategy. It’s a unique approach to unarmed combatives that he teaches to Special Operations Units, Security Professionals, and Law Enforcement worldwide. Though when he is armed, you’ll find him brandishing blades he’s created like Hisshou and Hissatsu fixed blades, as well as the new Shizuka noh Ken and now legendary Hissatsu Folder to name a few. James Williams (Encinitas, CA) has been designing knives and usefool personal defense and tactical applications tools for over 20 years.
CRKT Heiho 2900
In Depth Look
James Williams is actively involved in teaching Military special operations and government security professionals who must at times perform their daily high-risk duties in environments which do not allow them to carry firearms or a large fixed blade knife such as the Hissatsu. They asked James to design a folder with the defensive power of the Hissatsu that could be carried in a pocket or clipped under a jacket.
The result is the CRKT Heiho. This model incorporates our OutBurst assisted opening mechanism, which instantly springs the blade fully open after you have opened the blade approximately 30 degrees.
The Heiho uses our stainless steel InterFrame build with stainless steel liners, one locking, and textured G10 scales that are machined with Japanese kanji characters that signify 'Strategy- system of strategy.' A thumb disk allows rapid opening with either hand, and the custom stainless steel clip can be quickly and easily mounted right- or left-handed with a single screw, yielding knives that are truly ambidextrous.
The CRKT locking liner safety innovation adds an ingenious layer of safety to your folding knife. The safety sets a pin between the locking liner and the frame. This pin acts as an additional layer of safety, so the locking liner is less likely to disengage during use.
To engage the safety, push the manual safety lever forward. To close the knife, pull the manual lever back, slide the locking liner over, and fold the blade into the closed position. Many CRKT folders feature this innovative safety system.
This tactical folder is overbuilt to last. For those who have a need to use them, this is as much defensive security as you can find in a small tactical folder.

Top Customer Reviews
Anyone who has an assisted-opening knife blade should practice opening it again and again, just as you would in a real situation where it maybe required to defend yourself. As others have mentioned, the knife is initially difficult to open. With repeated use and a good lubricant--I used gun oil--the knife opens just fine for me. The tab is a bit small, but practice can overcome this. I love the lock on the blade, once it is extended. I had a blade fail me at the critical moment once when the blade folded back on my webbing between thumb and finger. This lock will prevent that.
The knife is light weight and attractive. The spring works well, and there is only a slight click heard when it is extended. The clip is well situated, better than most any I have had, so you can pull it from a pocket and open the blade with virtually no readjustment of your hand in that critical moment when time is critical and mistakes may be lethal.
I rated it 4 stars, but with a little more length and a slightly bigger handle to allow for a deeper finger hold it would earn a full 5 stars. I am impressed with it.
Edit: I just noticed that the screw holding in the torsion bar can hit the edge if the knife is closed too hard. This has put a nick in the edge which although small is still noticeable.
