The K.I.S.S. in the Dark features blade, frame, clip and hardware in black non-reflective plating that is tough and long lasting. Like all folding knives in the K.I.S.S. family, Ed Halligan's unique two-piece construction features an integral frame lock, and a breakthrough design which seals the cutting edge against the handle. A thumb stud is used to one-hand open the blade, and as the blade is fully rotated open, the frame lock snaps crisply in behind the blade to give a sound lockup. The blade can be closed with one hand, simply by releasing the frame lock. The Original K.I.S.S. blade shape is Tanto-inspired Chisel-Point grind on the front and flat on the backside so that when the blade is closed onto its handle/frame, the precision fit effectively "seals" the cutting edge to the frame, even though it's exposed. The design of the K.I.S.S. series pocket/money clip permits them to be used in a variety of ways: clipped to the pocket; as a money clip knife; and with split-ring or lanyard, as a key chain knife.
From the Manufacturer
K.I.S.S in the Dark made by Columbia River Knife and Tool is an all black knife/money clip. The Tanto inspired chisel point grind has a unique flat backside to the blade so when closed it precisely fits onto the frame not allowing it to get cut anything even though the knife is exposed.

Anyway, I was actually worried about this item as it doesn't have a complete surrounding body around the blade. I figured it was just an accident waiting to happen, especially since the darn thing came SUPER SHARP! But, hubby has carried it multiple times and I've checked it out and unless you jack it up somehow or another, the blade slides in neat and snug to the frame and you shouldn't have any accidental dismembering of body parts. ;-) If you like super sharp blade, that's narrow and has room for you to slide a few bills under the clip, this is definitely the knife for you. Great deal for the price!
This design was meant for single hand operation (right hand only); you can pull it out of a pocket, open and close it with only your right hand, which makes it ideal for quick things like opening boxes and such. Once you get used to it, it's up, out used and away with a simple hand movement.
Will it cut you? Any blade can cut you if you use it improperly. The KISS comes with a handy illustrated instruction manual that lists how you should handle and store the knife. Follow the guide, use common sense, and no harm will come to you; I promise. :)
So, it will stay in the display case. It's serviceable, but with caution --- not a great quality in a knife.
ALL of the other CRKT's I own are top-notch.
This knife is for light cutting and can also be used as a money clip too. I personally just attach it to my pant pocket. It is very good for opening boxes, cutting plastic packaging, cutting rubber, cutting rope...well you get the idea what I mean by light duty now.
I feel I must also mention that CRKT will fix and/or replace the handle or blade for the life of this knife. I have owned 4 of them but this last one's locking mechanism, which is a torsion spring incorporated into the handle pushed back and stopped working. I sent it back as the warranty instructions said and it was promptly fixed and mailed back to me. Very impressed by the way CRKT stood behind the product. That is rare these days.
