These shorts are my "uniform" most of the year(except on days below 50 degrees).They fit well,are lightweight,machine washable(don't stain easily either)and come in multiple colors.They are great for hiking or just wearing around town and at home.Lots of nice deep pockets.Don't have any issues with things like a wallet or keys falling out.Even has one zippered pocket.Comfortable adjustable belt.Fabric dries quickly and they don't chafe which makes these shorts a good choice for hiking.

The material is a THIN rip-stop nylon. Maybe a bit thinner than anticipated. Size .. got a 36", same as I have ordered for other similar shorts, notably O'Briens or Hang Ten, and these run small in the waist and seat. There is a bit of elastic in the waist which is helpful. They have that 'low rise', so while the inseam is 12" (or 10"), you have to undo these the you hit the urinal, as some have pointed out. The nylon zipper seems solid and is smooth. The 12" hit just below my knees. (I'm 5'9) The 2 side pockets, as some have also said, are only 5-6" deep. I do like the extra cargo style pockets on the legs. There is a zippered pocket on the left that is great for a cell phone or your wallet and a velcro flap pocket on the right. All that said .. I just ordered another pair in a different color. These look good enough to wear almost anywhere, cool on hot days and can go directly into the water if you're at the lake or beach and will dry quickly. Would be great for packing when you're traveling light.

If you match a size (I do it in my your local country store) then this shorts are very lightweight and comfortable, I already have 3 pairs and waiting a blue color to come up, I ve used many hiking for hikes and for casual purposes but this one (even though I got a longer version) beats every short I ever had

It is very breathable in hot summer, dries quickly like a swim suit, looks classy and is very durable during hiking, I climbed rocks, fell on sharp stones with my butt, crawled drunk like animal in streets (this is a bit sad to be honest) but not even a scratch still looks like new

Great shorts--lightweight, quick drying, good sized pockets, but a few design flaws

These shorts have some great aspects. They are lightweight and quick drying. The pockets are a good size.

The waistband has some give, but they should have more. They are comfortable while standing, but they get too tight when I sit down.

The right cargo pocket has two design flaws. First, it's rotated around so far to the right that you end up sitting on whatever is in it. Second, it's got this oddly placed single Velcro closure; it's only on the left side of the pocket flap and doesn't keep it shut. It's too small and it's only on one side. There should be two and a bit larger, one on each side of the flap or, if you have to have only one, then it should be in the middle and be much bigger.

Having said all that, these are still the best cargo shorts I've found. I had gotten some other cargo shorts from Duluth Trading that I liked a couple years ago, but they changed the design and the color choices so now they don't come in black, really show sweat badly, and aren't really quick drying. The original design of those shorts was better than their new one, but these Columbia shorts are much lighter and quicker drying (and cost less).

I have looked around at a bunch of other shorts and can't find any better than these Columbia shorts.

Have always liked Columbia's shorts because they're lightweight, quick-drying, comfortable, and practical. These are no exception, as they have 6 pockets in total (2 hand mesh pockets, 2 rear velcro pockets, a left-leg zippered pocket and a right-leg velcro pocket). Plus they come with their own basic nylon webbed belt in grey which seems to work well enough, but can be removed if you want. Leg length is 10 inches (from crotch to hem) so they sit just above the knee hence the sizing guide of 34/10 (in case you were wondering). The waist also has small elasticated sections on both sides so the fit is snug but comfortable. Easy 5 star from me.

This was bought as a gift for my husband. It arrived in good time - a bit disapointing in the packaging as it came in a small plastic bag and was rather crumpled considering the price tag of £45. The fit was perfect and the choice given to have only 10 inch length of leg was perfect and the reason for the order. Makeup and quality are good but overall I think it a little bit too expensive in a competitive market but there are few people offering a choice of leg lengths.
