I have to concur with "Shoeboy" who reviewed the men's version of this boot and said, "There is some sort of ankle plate, probably made of plastic that is super tight and constantly rubs against my ankle on both sides. I would compare it to a stone against your ankle bone rubbing as you walk. There is also chaffing in the upper ankle. I do not know if these boots need to be broken in, but I don't think any boot should be this uncomfortable just after purchase. If you are looking for something to be able to walk in then I don't recommend these boots."

However after getting some smart wool medium hiker socks and wearing them around for a while the pain is gone now. So I guess I'll keep them.
*****UPDATE****** 2/27/13 I really wanted light but warm boots so I didn't buy the kamiks but gave a try to the COLUMBIA MINX BOOTS. Oh my word, those are the boots you want for lightweight. They are lighter than my sneakers and ultra flexible too. See my review on the Columbia Minx. Finally, warmth and a lightweight boot with sneaker flexibility! Whoohoo!!
One thing about these boots is they take a little long to break in. When I received my pair the upper side of the right one had collapsed a little and was digging into my ankle. The problem was easily remedied by putting a hard object (I used an ordinary rock) into the boot to correct the problem. They also may take a little getting use to walking in, my feet are very small and even though the shoes are light they are quite large.
I am extremely happy with these boots, Columbia has always lived up to their name. I highly recommend these if you need a good, warm winter boot.

My wife wears them when she comes ice fishing (I don't own a shanty). She never complained of cold feet with these boots. She has only worn them 5-10 times, but she likes them.Published 13 months ago by Benjamin Burnison
Love these boots but didnt know they run a bit small in size and are a bit tight. Had the sizing info been correct or available on the listing, I would have ordered the next size... Read morePublished 13 months ago by TranquilOne
i say they are a little big but they fit perfect with a little thicker of a sock. they keep my feet nice and warm for snow plowing and shoveling.
I would def reccommend.
The boots are a little stiff to walk in, but overall good quality and warm. Would buy a half size bigger if wearing thick socks.Published on November 24, 2013 by Msreadseverything

In the beginning, it was quite tight around the ankles but after a few hikes in the mountains stretched out maybe. Stood up to the test at extremely cold hiking conditions. Read morePublished on March 26, 2013 by Ankhmaa
