-In general, all fit just right to include a layering fleece, light to medium thickness; heavyweight would probably be too tight
-All three have the rain flap and adjustable cuff and hood (but not the actual hood opening - just the back).
-All have somewhat thin shell materials, but they are supposed to be lightweight and I suppose that would help with perspiration, but keep in mind these are shells only and are not meant for warmth.
-All are supposed to be waterproof/breathable
-None have pit zips - those are on the adult models
-Columbia have a snap closure at the top of the rain flap whereas the Precip and Rainfall have velcro (middle and lower portions are velcro on all). I found it a little harder to snap/unsnap the Columbia's top closure.
-Precip & Rainfall have interior collar for stowaway hoods, Columbia does not. (-1/2 star for Columbia without the top velcro closures and stowaway hood)
-Precip & Rainfall are ripstop nylon; Columbia regular nylon. Arguably, ripstop is more durable in preventing extension of tears, but if one is puncturing/tearing the shell...um, it's no longer waterproof. (-1/2 star for Columbia for regular nylon though)
-Really liked the chest pocket of the Rainfall
-Precip and Rainfall have exposed interior laminate; Precip had slight nubs on them (you can see from the pictures) but I could not really feel a difference between them. The Columbia has a mesh interior, keeping the laminate off your skin. No problem if you're wearing layers, but if wearing just by itself, the laminates feel like plastic against the skin, sometimes sticking to it. Some may be fine with that, my kids - not so much. In the end, that was the major difference that favored the Columbia. If I was reviewing the Precip and Rainfall, I would have taken away 1 - 1 1/2 stars for the lining alone.
Of course, I cannot compare waterproofness of all three, but the Columbia did fine in light-moderate rain, water beading up and rolling off. We didn't stand/hike out in the rain all day long so can't attest to time before the shell starts to saturate and hold water and negate the breathability of the laminate. Please also keep in mind that breathability is relative; evaporation and breathability work best in cool dry climates but in hot humid weather nothing will breathes well. In the end, nobody got wet, which is what we needed.
Attaching some pictures with measurements for those who are curious for a size small. Amazon's pictures are pretty good for appearance.
Here are my favorites from most to least.
Columbia Big Girls' Arcadia Jacket Large ($39.19 - black)
This fit amazingly well and had a mesh lining which prevented the jacket from sticking to my skin. There was a snap at the top to secure the jacket.
Columbia Boys Big Watertight Jacket, Large ($38.43 - blue)
This jacket was also mesh lined with a snap at the top, but being a boy's jacket the cut was more boxy. I felt the girls jacket was a better fit on my body type. The arms on this jacket are longer than the arms on the xs women's switchback jacket.
Columbia Women's Arcadia Ii Jacket ($54.00 - black)
At $54 this was slightly over my threshold of $50. I didn't end up keeping it because the kids jackets fit better and were less expensive. This had the same lining at the girls arcadia jacket, but the top of the jacket did not have a snap near the collar like the kids jackets.
Columbia Big Girls Switchback rain jacket ($30 - purple)
This was the least expensive jacket and the build quality reflected just that. It lacked the mesh lining of the other jackets so it stuck to me more. While this is probably a fine choice if you want a jacket that folds down small, it did not feel good to put on and had that clammy plastic feeling.

Perfect. Fits nicely, hood has a little peak on it to keep his face dry, excellent quality, sturdy and well made. He plays hard and it has held up extremely well. Still looks brand new. Even the zipper is good quality......it's very smooth which is important as he has to be able to zip it up himself. And its very stylish. He loves wearing it and loves that it has a hood. Liked it so much I bought him and his brother Columbia puffer coats to wear too now that it's getting colder. Even though this is a rain coat, it is still quite thick. He was able to wear a sweater under it and stay warm right up until the snowy weather came this week. And it's so well made that I'm sure it will make an excellent hand-me-down for his younger brother in a couple years. Which makes me happy.
I have come to love Columbia so much now I've bought them both their puffers, plus a rain coat, and a puffer for myself, and some boots.
