Author David Sechrest's impassioned vision for keeping the historical Columbus, Indiana's premiere, Crump theater alive is inspiring and heartfelt. He compels and intrigues his readers with such anecdotal accounts as when the patriarch of the Crump family and a forefather of the town, Francis Jefferson Crump, whose eccentric manner of carrying his businesses money loaning papers conveniently stored under his stove-pipe hat, is nothing less than astounding. Talk about saving money on "overhead" expenditures. However that seemingly odd gesture is not to be lost in translation. In all actuality, Francis and his son John, who would continue his father's legacy, was also determined to pay if forward to a town and it's citizens. Both father and son, did so by harboring the spirit of innovation creativity, and the theory of what was good for business should also be good for the public. Their reciprocating principles should seriously make a credible case study on how to get things done properly, successfully and sustainably in any city of these United States. This and other noteworthy trails, triumphs, victories and challenges of the theater, the namesakes thereof and the people of the town, are waiting to reveal long lost secrets. I would recommend this book not only to those who appreciate the love of the iconic history and nostalgia of the things which unites them to their respective home towns, but for anyone who appreciates a good story with heart, endurance, guts, and glory. The magic that was witnessed by the many generations of Columbus's towns people though the footlights and projection screens of the Crump theater is set to be one of the most endearing, and hopeful come back stories to be read this year.
