Blokh's book meets all these criteria. The fact that both White and Black solutions are ingeniously combined in many of the puzzles is fascinating, and more than doubles the value of the puzzle -- practice calculating a winning solution when your opponent can him or herself kill you on the next move! That's real chess.
Blokh's other, legendary, works -- his older, classic, set of puzzles, and the very popular CD/computer version of this product are unfamiliar to me. But this is a wonderful set of exercises, well presented. It is among the best puzzle books I have ever had.
I in fact bought two. One for exercise, one for collection purpose. Among those famous books currently available, I rate this is the best because:
1) More than one thousand exercises, which is graded, only in this aspect " sharpen your tactics " can compete with it.
2) Large clear diagram, in this aspect, sharpen your tactics cannot compare with it
3) Suitable for beginners to advanced players, " sharpen your tactics can compete with it in this aspect
4) Quality of exercises, I think no other books can compete with it, I
do not say no other book can give good quality exercises, but the number is small
5) The price.
I think if I try hard to finish this book, one, two, three, etc times, working all the questions, either solve it myself or if not, just memorize them, I can come to master level.
