I bought these to put in some old vases and jars around the apartment because I remembered loving them as a kid. As they were so cheap, I wasn't expecting amazing quality, but they are actually really pretty and form perfect little beads in just a few hours in water.
A couple of tips for anyone buying them:
1) There are way more than you might think from the tiny packets. Don't do what I did and use half a packet at once, you will probably need much less, especially if you are using multiple colours!
2) They will dry out if you leave them open, so you'll either need to top them up, or cover the top. Covered, they last a really long time - the ones in the picture have plastic wrap over the top and haven't shrunk noticeably since I put them in weeks ago.
3) Some of the colours look very similar (e.g. the two yellows in my pic above the red and orange) which makes them great for gradients!
I have these all over my home in vases, tupperwares and jars, and I still have so many left in the packet. I was very happy with this purchase.

It seems like each packet makes about a quart, give or take (I bought four sets due to the amount of vases I have). These beads aren't all the same size and some aren't perfectly round, but I dont mind that at all.
I water propagate a lot of plants and grow quite a few hydroponically, and these beads make them more interesting to look at. I change the water and rinse the beads in a strainer once a week and haven't had any issues with mold or algae.
If you use these beads with plants or cut flowers, you'll need to keep water in the vase with the beads, because these beads don't hydrate plants. If left out of water the beads will slowly shrink and dry out, but you should be able to rehydrate them again.
Pictures are just a few examples of the beads in water with my plants.

I love the range of colors these water beads come in, and that they're separated by color. They're all transparent or semi-transparent once hydrated and in water, with the exception of the white, so it appears that the water is colored.Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on July 2, 2020

I’m currently letting them all dry out in a single layer on plates and hoping to store them for future use. I’ll update if this is not successful.

These worked exactly as expected. They took a little longer to completely absorb water than I thought, but after letting them soak overnight they were all fully formed and about the size of marbles. They look really pretty and are super fun for kids’ sensory activities (read: I let my 2yo still his hands into the vase and mix them all up, and he loved it). I have seen these used at weddings instead of water, but they are completely useless for this purpose because they don’t actually provide any water to cut stems. I foolishly let some hydrangeas sit in them thinking they would be fine and they all faded in 1 day, unlike the stems I left in straight water which were all fine. I used these beads for a black & white/rainbow baby shower and just added a few inches of water to the bottom of each vase with the already fully-formed beads in them and the flowers held up for the event, but not much longer. As the beads are exposed to air, they keep pulling more water from the bottom of the vase to maintain their max size, which is obviously not great for the flowers!Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on February 17, 2018
