This has got to be the most magnificent CD I have purchased in recent years. I want to see the show, but by listening to the CD, I feel like I have already seen the show. I received on Friday, March 24, and now only March 28, the tunes already swim in my head. It is an obscure Newfie folk feel, but Maritime/ Irish decent folk music is my favorite genre. The music style and words and stories combined send the base story line, but also an artistic depth unmatched in recent years. I would have preferred the recorded version without the F bomb and the S word in this format. That is the only reason I will not be sharing with my middle school students. I have shared the Gander, NF story since students going through these days have no recollection of 9/11. Brilliant!
I have my tickets for the show! I imagine that my view of this will only get better. This has rarely left my CD player in my car in the 5 months I have had the album. I was sad when I didn't have it in Newfoundland this summer.

Editorial Reviews
COME FROM AWAY is the breathtaking new musical written by Canadians Irene Sankoff and David Hein and produced by Tony-nominated director Christopher Ashley (Memphis). In a heartbeat, 38 planes with 6,579 passengers were stranded in Newfoundland. The locals opened their hearts and homes, hosting this international community of strangers-spurring unexpected camaraderie in extraordinary circumstances. On September 11, 2001 the world stopped. On September 12, their stories moved us all.

I was fortunate enough to see this at Schoenfeld and I am obsessed with seeing it again. I ordered this as soon as I got home. It leaves out enough that if you listen before you see it there will still be some surprises. I cannot express how phenomenal this show was. My mom was from "The Rock" and the description of the people fit her perfectly, brought a tear to my eye. She was so proud of her people when this story came out. My parents met in Gander when she worked there. God bless the Islanders

Seriously, move over. Ever heard of Gander, Newfoundland? Me neither. Yet on 9/11, it hosted 7000 people from 38 airplanes that could not enter US airspace for a week. This is the story of the generous and resourceful smallish city that welcomed these passengers (as they called them The Come From Aways) from all over the world with open arms, and gave them a safe place while the rest of the world went wild. It's nominated for a Tony, as is the amazing Jenn Colella who plays one of the pilots, the first female American Airlines pilot EVER to be more specific. Listen to her sing Me and the Sky and try to resist falling in love with this musical and story. And the added bonus of Kendra Kassebaum's beautiful soprano voice in several roles seals the deal for me.

This unique spirited and inspiring musical is about the events of September 11, 2001 in Gander, Newfoundland, Canada. As the musical begins, the first song welcomes you to the rock. Gander is one of the largest airports in the world and was the place to stop for fuel before jets. On that fateful day, the USA stopped all air travel. 38 jumbo jets landed in Gander. The town from 9,000 to 19,000 overnight. The town welcomed the weary travelers who were unaware of what was happening in New York, Shanksville and the Pentagon.
With remarkable storytelling in comprising what happened for five days, the weary travelers made lifelong friends and bonded during the worst of the tragedies. They're lives were never the same again and none of us are since that day.
I have been weary of seeing or hearing anything about September 11, 2001. I live in New Jersey and we're not far from ground zero. Every town has a memorial to remember those lost. Would I like to see the show, yes and no. This musical is about humanity though. Maybe one day, I'll see the show on Broadway. The soundtrack makes me want to see it more.

I was lucky enough to see this show on Broadway and it provided one of the most joyous nights I've ever had in a theatre. This recording captures the spirit of the show I saw, with all the wonderful and fleshed out performances coming across. I still can't listen to the ending song without tearing up. This is a show about people and humanity, and the recording preserves that. This is not a song after song recording but one that actually has dialogue weaving in and out, just as in the show. You can recognize the characters by voice and, believe me, you will start to identify with them. I have had friends listen and they could follow along without having seen the show. Ideally, you'll be able to see the show at some point, but this cd works for me until I can see it again.

After hearing the story of where thousands of air travelers were taken after 9/11, I wanted to hear the songs from the play. Hearing what the frightened visitors who didn't know what was happening and how the people on the island in New Foundland had to almost double their population and find everything those people needed and shared everything they had , was inspirational. After listening to the CD multiple times I finally saw a touring company put on the production. It was a great experience. From "Welcome to the Rock" through the rest of the music, you hear rousing voices and at the end compassionate humanity.

I first heard about this musical on the Tony Award show. I saw the cast perform Welcome to the Rock. I had read
The Day the World Came to Town: 9/11 in Gander, Newfoundland
, so I knew some of the story. I had to own the music.
I fell in love with the music. As I listened to the music, I fell in love with the people. I rooted for Nick and Diane. I hoped Hannah would be reunited with her son. Beverley's story was so powerful and gut-wrenching. My favorite songs are Welcome to the Rock, Heave Away, Screech In, Me and the Sky, and Something's Missing (because it resonated with me).
You could easily get this as a digital download without missing much. The booklet with the CD has some background information, but almost no pictures and no lyrics.
Anyone who would like to know more about Gander's part in Operation Yellow Ribbon would probably enjoy this musical.

If I could give this cast album more than 5 stars, I would! I have seen Come From Away three times, and still, every time I listen to the cast album I am caught up in the story. On 9/11, when US airspace was closed, the town of Gander welcomed thousands of stranded travelers into their communities and homes. The story of how the locals came together to take care of people who could not go home is a demonstration of true humanity, kindness, and courage. If you get a chance to see the show, you should go. If you don't get a chance to see the show, listen to the cast album.

Missed seeing the show thanks to Covid, this CD shows why I love the Newfoundlanders. The music speaks to the Newfie in me. Can't wait to see the show when the West End re-opens.
