This a sweet cupcake of a story (Haha. Get it? please forgive me..) with a sprinkling of romance and sugar. It's very foodie, so if you're on any sort of restrictive diet I advise you to stay away. I for one cheat during the holidays! It was loads of fun but also very sad. I felt bad for her mother, who had taken a turn for the worst after our heroines father dies of a very sudden heart attack. Since her mom's change of behavior, she repressed a lot of her natural baking skills and once she decided to make lemon cupcakes to tell off a very snooty co-employee (the daughter of her boss, mind you.) who couldn't bake to save her life and then discovered she is actually a very good baker, even better than the bosses daughter, and this doesn't make HER happy. This is a story about breaking down barriers and trusting yourself and perseverance through difficult times. with baked treats. always with baked treats to soothe the heart.
I really really enjoyed this--it was just the pick-me-up I needed in these dreary short winter days.
Hope I can read more by the author in the future.
As a friend and a fan, it is awesome to see her come so far in her story writing and character development. I can honestly say this is her best book yet!
